Cats scratching furniture
Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep my cat from scratching my couch? I just bought a brand new one and she is ruining it!
She has multiple scratching posts/pads in each room.
I have told her "no" in a firm voice.
Removed her from the couch.
Chased her (which is just a game at this point because she runs away and then runs after me. Then she ends up with her nails back in the couch looking at me like lets keep playing.
I will not declaw her but I cant have her ripping my new furniture.
Also she gets a mani pedi by yours truly every week and I do cut the nails so they are not sharp. I have to do this or we become her prey.

My cats scratch too. I bought a spray at Petco, but it doesnt help that much.
I also will not declaw. I am going to try putting tin foil on the areas where they scratch.

Funny you should write this!! I put tin also on the arm last night and my DH came home and couldn't figure it out.

Well there's these strips... although they didn't work too well with my cat.

Since you already give a mani/pedi, how about trying the soft claws? They work great on my smaller dogs, since no matter how often I trim & shape their claws they are still razor sharp.

Good luck! Just make sure that you put it out in the open for a little bit.

This is easy to fix. Go out and buy double stick tape. Apply it to your furniture. THe cat will not like the feeling of the tape and eventually stop doing it.

oh i know that. That's why i recommended both the tape and the scratching post.

The only thing that helped with my 2 cats was spraying them with a water bottle every time they did it.

yes we often used the water bottle, but it only worked when we were around. We were noticing that they were still doing it when we were at work. And i like my furniture too much to have it become ripped to shreds.

I'd go with the Mother of all scratching posts. I have one big one and a little one. I know they can be expensive, but what is a couple of hundred $ compared to a ruined sofa? My two use them both, the bigger scratching post has almost no carpet left on it!

I have a large varitey of scratching posts including one like the one posted.
SO far the tin foil has worked! If not I will try the double stick tape!!

I put Glad press & seal on the areas our cats were scratching and it works like a charm!

are all you scratching post the same kind i know my cats like the fluffly rug kind best, soft claws, water bottle, are good also you can try putting some cat nip on the scratching post that works for us with new posts
