Re: Any teachers do guided reading?
Well the shared would be the mini lesson and the guided would be what skills you would target with those specific kids. Sometimes my guided group "lessons" are not necessarily what the lesson was about. My lower kids need a lot of help with fluency.

It's a little different in my school...my first period is shared (whole class) and concentrates on one skill. Then in the second period the class is in centers while the teacher is with a guided reading group. I'm just not sure how to script the guided group.
Does that make sense?

Re: Any teachers do guided reading?
We do guided reading in my school. The most important thing is for all the children to be reading at the same time. No round robin or taking turns reading. That way all the children are reading the whole time instead of just for a few seconds or minutes during the guided reading group. FM me if I can helf more. Good luck,

Re: Any teachers do guided reading?
My school does guided reading too. My class does centers while I meet with guided reading groups. During the group we start out 5 min. reading a previous text (individually) then I introduce the new text, do a picture walk, make predictions, go over vocabulary, review reading strategies, then the kids read the text individually while I monitor, or do a quick running record on a student. Then we discuss the text and I try to comment on how well some used a reading strategy (I liked how Sally went back and re-read blah blah blah) Sometimes I will also do work work with the group depending on their needs. HTH
eta: I try to give the students a focus when they are reading, ex) read to find out why a character was doing something. Or how does a character solve their problem.
