Who do you call
Yesterday, there was a huge mountain dog roaming the neighborhood. I went up to him in my car (he was huge & I had no idea if he was friendly) to give him some food & water. DH thought he belonged to someone down the block so we approached them & it was their dog. They went to get him. However, it made me wonder: who do you call if a dog is wandering around the neighborhood?

The town Animal Control or the ASPCA.
ASPCA will sometimes "charge" to come pick up an animal!
We had a situation at work once where an injured dog was roaming so we called ASPCA and they said it would be a minimum of $50 for them to come out.
And we were just trying to do the right thing

Re: Who do you call
I call the local animal shelter - it's right here in Wantagh so it is convenient and anyone who is missing a dog usually calls there first.
They will give you a case # when the dog is brought in and you can check up and see if the dog is claimed.
