BROOKLYN PETS GET THEIR DAY IN THE SUN NEXT SATURDAY!
Attention, New Yorkers! Next Saturday, June 2, take the “A” train to Utica Ave., Brooklyn, for the first annual Bed-Stuy Pet-Stuy, an event celebrating Kings County’s most talented and fashionable pets. This family event will feature a pet fashion show and talent exhibition, with the top three contestants winning prizes supplied by local businesses. Deck out your four-legged friends in their very best, because prizes include gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as dinner for two (two people, that is), a month of personal pet training sessions, and gift certificates for Brooklyn groomers and pet supply stores.
The Bed-Stuy Pet-Stuy was created by proud Brooklyn animal lover Madeline Smith. The seed was planted while watching televised dog shows, but it blossomed into a full-fledged mission when she began noticing the surge of well-dressed pooches sauntering down the sidewalks. “Nothing of this kind has ever been attempted in this neighborhood, but judging from the response I’ve been getting, we’re more than ready for it,” says Madeline. “I’ve had overwhelming enthusiasm from the community and local businesses, some of which are already signing on to sponsor the Pet-Stuy next year!”
In true NYC fashion, there’s plenty of time for brunch beforehand; the party/pet pageant takes place from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. in Fulton Park (Fulton Street between Stuyvesant and Lewis Avenues).
