Re: Can you make your dog drink?

I have the same problem. We give him ice cubes so that will atleast get him hydrated. I also found out he has a preference for bowls. He prefers the stainless steel over the plastic with the reseviour. Chat Icon

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

My dogs are silly. If you give them water from a human drinking glass, they think they are getting a treat and will drink. Or from the Poland Spring cooler ...they always drink. Try a glass of water, pretend you are drinking it first. They are like little kids.

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

I bring a bottle of water with me and figure if he's thirsty enough, he'll drink.

I tried this once and now if I ever leave a glass of water next to my bed, the dogs drink it!Chat Icon

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

My dog never used to drink water but he loves food. I would drop a piece of kibble in the water bowl. In the process of trying to get the kibble, he would have to swallow some water. I would do this a few times in a row. Or I would add water to his entire food bowl. The food would become soupy but he loved the flavor and he would drink.

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

My dogs love to drink...after a walk they lay down at the bowl and drink...

when they are outside in the yard playing I will usually keep a bowl of water outside as well.

I have a spritzer for Molly - and it's the funniest thing to watch her drink out of it. I literally stand there and spritz into the princesses mouth.

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

I tell Lexi and Bella to "get water" and they stop whatever they're doing to drink. It's so freakin cute...

In this heat my dog cannot walk very far without starting to hack and cough. I try to force him to drink before we go for a walk but he is so stubborn. Any tips?

If he's hacking and coughing from a walk I would be concerned that it's more than being thirsty.

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

I put a couple of pieces of kibble in the water, he "fishes" them out and drinks. I also put ice cubes in the water, it's messier than the kibble, but he drinks.

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

If I put the water on my finger and them bring it to the dog's mouth, they usually will follow my finger back to the bottle, bowl or whatever the water is in.

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

I put ice in her water. Two reasons, one is she prefers cold water, so this keeps her water cool. And the other reason is she loves trying to get the ice cube out of the bowl. In doing so she drinks water Chat Icon

Re: Can you make your dog drink?

I'll pour water into my hand and put it on Coop's mouth so that way he's forced to lick
