I need your help once again

I don't know if I've ever posted about this before but it's gotten to the point of driving me mad again.

Molly is OBSESSED with eating my hair. I think she thinks it's a rope toy or something. It's gotten to the point where I can't even lay down on the couch because the second I do she is on top of my head. Then, when I am sleeping in bed and she is on my pillow she will start pulling at it as soon as she wakes up.

I get up, try to distract her, push her away, yell at her to stop, but she is soooooo relentless that nothing works.

My real issue is this though - we are going to have a baby any day now (HOPEFULLY) and when I sit down to feed him on the couch she will be all over my hair tugging at it (I know this because when I babysat for my friends baby a few weeks ago I was having issues with this and had to walk around with hooded sweatshirts on all week)

Am I going to have to buy stock in hooded sweatshirts for the next couple of years of my life or is there anything I can do to try and break this SUPER annoying behavior?

I would totally try to break her of the habit. You will be sweating your azz off in the summer with a hoodie.Chat Icon
Try the coins in a can when she jumps up to your head.

We have tried the can of coins before (for some other behavior problem that we tried to break) and it just makes her even more mad. She doesn't give up ever. She is a fiesty little pup. But maybe I will give it a try with the hair thing and she will react differently.

Thanks! Chat Icon

Try putting a few drops of Listerine in your hair. I read to put this on the baby toys so the dog won't chew on them - maybe it would work with hair too??

They sell something called Bitter Apple to deter dogs from things. Maybe you could spray it in your hair unless she learns not to do it?

ITA but it has to be the original version, not the minty one. Also you can try to keep a spray bottle filled with plain water handy & squirt the little dickens when she goes to chew.

We tried the squirt bottle of water....now I am the sucker that gives her - her water like that when we are out. She loved it so much. She's crazy I tell ya!

I will try the listerine - it can't hurt and I'll try anything at this point.

LOL Molly is funny. I cannot believe she likes to get her water from a squirt bottleChat Icon

I'd definitely try the Listerine. The only other thing I might try is to leash her when she goes to chew at your hair and make her do a sit/stay while in the leash. If you (or DH) does this a few days in a row, eventually you will only have to get the leash & place it where she can see it for her to get the idea.

Well, we kind of do something similar to that now - that works sometimes. If it happens when we are in bed I will tell her "Let's go - I'm putting you out of the room" -- the second she hears "Let's go" she turns into a sweetie pie (but will then start up a few minutes later) -- If I am on the couch I will say the same thing about putting her in a room (like a Time out) and again it will work but not for long. She knows that we are suckers and it hurts us more then it hurts her to put her outside of the room.

Here are some pics of her with the SCARY water bottle.
