Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
if you are not considered a high risk pg, you can do exercisesyou were doing before you got pg. I know when you are further into the pg, some exercises like running and lifting heavy weights could be out if they are putting stress on the little one.
I was pretty active before pg too, but the tiredness wiped me out every night. I can't make it past 4pm without wanting my pillow. I get home and crash.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
gym? haven't been there in a long time. since i've been pregnant i've been so tired all the time, but it's finally starting to let up so hopefully i will become more active again. i have an eliptical trainer at home so i will probably just do that and walking.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I was in the gym 4 days a week before I got pregnant. I am high risk and as per my Dr., I cannot lift anything more than ten pounds. I can walk which I do every morning with my dog for 30-45 minutes. The best advice I can give you is as soon as you think you are pregnant, ask your doctor what you should be doing for exercise. I had no idea I could not lift weights anymore until I went to the Dr. and I was not "lifting" that much weight to begin with. Good Luck!

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
With my first pregnancy, I did cardio kickboxing until about 7 months (AND still managed to gain a ton of weight). I couldn't do the high impact that I used to and after a few months, they suggest that you don't do floor exercises (stomach, legs, etc).
This pregnancy, I've done NOTHING! I just don't have the time.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I am not prego, but i noticed that there were 3 pregnant women at my gym last weekend. They were all on the eliptical, then one went the the weights. When i was pregnant with my daughter i did taebo at home until i was about 6 1/2 months. It was hard the first trimester b/c i was so sick, but once i felt human i started working out. My gym also offers prenatal/post natal yoga classes. Everything in moderation, and i think you'll be good.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
i worked out a ton b4 i got PG, now I just cut it back a bit... I still go to spin class and do the elliptical and lift weights (my doc said use lighter weights, more reps, nothing heavy)... you should also wear a heartrate monitor and try to not go too much above 140bpm. talk to your doc.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I go to the gym 3 times a week at least. My doctor just told me not to run. I do the eliptical, bicycle, stairmaster, swimming and walking on the tradmill. I also still do weight lifting (but lower weights) and I am even taking a semi-private pilates class with tower reformer machines.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I worked out before, during and after all 3 pregnancies and I have to thank that for having 3 wonderful deliveries too (Ob's words, not mine). There's nothing wrong with working out, just listen to your body and make you take it down a notch if you don't feel right and of course, make sure to let your OB in on what your plan is.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
This is the one thing I am dreading if ever PG. I can't give up running.
I'd probably do light running as tolerated with a lot more walking breaks since my base mileage is 15-30 miles a week...
But I've seen women running pregnant, just less. I also saw someone running a long race once with a t-shirt that said "pregnant with TRIPLETS" I thought that was probably dangerous!

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I'm still working out. My first trimester weeks 7-10 i did not because of all day long sickness. The next few weeks I was swimming, walking, spinning, and taking prenatal yoga (3-4 days). At my 20 week they toldme I had a low lying placenta, so I stopped weights/spinning, but continued swimming, yoga, and walking. At 25 weeks I was "cleared" to resume normal activity- so I have been walking/spinning(2-3days) and I love prenatal yoga(1X/wk)! I must admit at 28 weeks...its getting hard. I'm still gaining weight and my arms/legs/butt are starting to look fatty!

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I continue to go to the gym 4 days a week. I am 25 weeks. I do cardio, weightlift, yoga. The instructors have been extremely knowledgeable about what to avoid. I wear a heartrate monitor which helps me control my oxygen intake so as not to take it away from the baby. I have stopped all high impact movements but still burn tons of calories. It definitely helps with labor and recovery afterwards. Exercise if you are able to.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I worked out up until 4 - 5 months. Dr. told me to keep my heartrate around 120 but that was ridiculously low so I didn't listen. I just backed off a little. I still did weights for my arms and legs and cardio in the form of the elliptical. Of course eventually I just got big and lazy and stopped going.

Re: Pregnancy and the Gym....
I am 7 months pregnant and have continued to work out the entire time. I do the elliptical and walk on the treadmill (I can't run anymore). I also lift lighter weights. My doctor just made me get a heartrate monitor and told me to keep my heartrate under 140bpm. My gym also offers prenatal yoga which I find wonderful.
