Icarus aka Icky - my cat is having accidents....

I have 2 cats, one is very spiteful and if she does not have quiet time with my DH in the morning before he leaves for work, she gets spiteful and will leave a "present " by his shoes. Now, my other cat is urinating right were I would step out of bed in the morning, like it is his litter box. He keeps going back to the same spot. Dh was in a car accident in March and this happened in the spring, there has been a lot of tension in the house since- lots of doctors appointments, he has hernated, and bulging discs, etc, but on the mend. Icky only does this on my side of the floor by our bed. I called the vet and they think it is behavioral. I also had changed his litter and then changed it back to the old one ... they think he can be strssed from what we have been going thru with the aggravation with the accident- man ran red light, he was uninsured then he said he hit him with another car- yada yada yada- any advice here? What can I do to get the smell out of the carpet? I washed it up and poured some vinegar on it to neutralize any smell, I remember a family member told us to do this when we had a dog. Icky is acting perfectly fine .... The vet does not think it is a UTI, becuase if it was he would be in pain and acting differenlty. HELP!

Re: Icarus aka Icky - my cat is having accidents....

I can help you here!!!!

One of my cats loves my DH and he works very long hours, so she started to pee in his slippers! Then on his PJ's and once on the bed Chat Icon Finally once on the two brand new sofa's .Also every time I get the other cat a little cat bed Bolly pees on that too.

SO I took her to the vet and he said yes it is behavioral and prescribed her "kitty prozac" the actual drug is called Buspurone (sp) and I give it to her transdermally (smear a little on the inside of her ear) as she is impossible to give a tablet to. Anyway, the peeing stopped after a couple of weeks, she was on the drug for about 8 weeks and is not on it anymore and hasn't peed on anything since (well sometimes in the downstairs bathroom sink, but that's not so bad) I would recommend asking the vet.

As far as the smell goes to be honest I would have the carpet cleaned professionally, I did with the sofa, once they can smell the urine they will keep going in the same area. I have a great guy who did the sofa and all the carpets when we moved into new house. The co is called Inter County Carpet Care (516) 759-3563 He does free estimates and was much cheaper than Stanley Steamer. Good luck!
