Where can I buy a dog pen?
Bailey got loose again today and this time was hit by a car. I was looking into getting him a run/pen for the backyard so that when we are not out there watching him we know he is safe.
I looked online and they cost a fortune. Does anyone know a good place to buy one?
TIA

Re: Where can I buy a dog pen?
Bailey needs to be trained not to run into the street - there is nothing that is 100% foolproof but with trainng hopefully he will be more controlled. I hope he is OK!
As far as a pen - I don't know of any that are really sturdy - nothing I would count on to keep my dog from running away. Maybe put in a dog run....or fencing...but I think training would do wonders too. Scout won't go off the property now without permission. That's not to say he NEVER would but I am pretty confident that he would not.

Re: Where can I buy a dog pen?
He is very banged up but ok. He is sooo lucky. My BIL actually is the one that hit him. Bailey is just sooo fast and darted out in front of his car and bounced of the fender
Thank goodness I did not see it
He has cuts all on one side of him and his paw is very cut up but we have it wrapped up. He has just been sleeping a lot from his adventure
I saw a dog run that I am really excited about on ebay. I am hoping I win!!
Training is out of the question. I truly believe it can't be done with him. We have spent hundreds and hundreds on training 2x and nothing.

Did you take him to the vet? I would, just to make sure there is no internal bleeding.

Having said that, you also may want to look into building one on your own from chain-link fencing. It can be less expensive than pre-made kennels, and you can make it to whatever size you require. Also you can cover the top with the fencing as well to prevent Bailey from climbing out the top.
Hope Bailey is well

Re: Where can I buy a dog pen?
I am so sorry. I dont know how much it costs there but in the DIY fence section at Home Depot, they had a kit.

Re: Where can I buy a dog pen?
Why is he out in the backyard alone if it's not fenced in the first place?

It is fenced in. He digs under the fence or sometimes someone will be in our backyard and not close the gate all the way.
Now we are having a problem that the dog next door is digging under our fence

Re: Where can I buy a dog pen?
Is there a particular spot where your dog digs under the fence? If so, maybe put some rock or Belgian block (sp?) around the fence. We did this when our Shiba Inu was in his digging phase, and it worked like a charm.

Re: Where can I buy a dog pen?
He digs around the entire yard because the people in back have a dog too he tries to get to. I put wood under the fence and really jammed it in there but he knocked it away
I was thinking maybe cementing something under the fence.

I was thinking maybe cementing something under the fence. You might have to. I would also talk to your neighbors & ask them to try & take similar measures on their side of the fence.
Just as a second question. When your dog is outside, do you play or is it just a time to "take care of business." It sounds like maybe Bailey has some unharnessed energy and may need some directed play time. DH plays "soccer" with Loki for about 20 minutes after he does his business and this has helped tremendously with his excessive energy & digging issues.

That is a great idea. Thank you for your help.
Bailey just loves running around outside. He has a ton of energy and never will come in right after going to the bathroom.
