As I mentioned, I had a blood test done yesterday at the re's office...I was wondering, when they check to see if one has ovulated, how far can that go back? I got my positive for ovulation on September 14th...would a blood test still be able to show it being that it was such a long time ago now?? Please help!

Ok this is why I am asking...the one and only time I got a positive on my opk was September 14th but I have to admit, I didnt test religiously after that because I was waiting for af to show. She never did. So now I am wondering, did I ovulate again and just not get my period?? My doctor had bloodwork done on me yesterday and wanted me to start provera again but told me to wait for the results (she didnt think that I had ovulated at all)...well, the bloodwork did show that I ovulated (yay I guess) but now I have no idea when...could it have been from September 14th?? Or maybe I ovulated again without getting af?? Is that possible?? She said there was definite traces of ovulation...but how far back do you think this can go?????

Re: Please look here..

You didn't ovulate 'again" :) You only ovulate, when the LH surges in your cycle. You can produce multiple eggs, but they rupture, around the same time period. So a person doesn't ovulate, one week and then again two weeks later. Ovulation can occur twice, but usually just a few hours apart.

I replied to your FM noreen. I just thought some this information may be important for people to know.

Okay...now back to the bloodtest to check for O. It's a progesterone test called P4 by the labs. It checks to see if your level is over a 5. If your level is over a 5, that means you indeed ovulated. Progesterone is the hormone that is released in high doses only after ovulation. It comes from the 'shell' of the follicule that remains in your ovary, after ovulation occurs....that is called the corpus luteum. The corpus luteum turns into a cyst, in that ovary, and helps produce the progesterone for the majority of the first trimester of pg, if a woman is not pg, then the corpus luteum disolves and progesterone production ceases. The uterine lining is then shed, and AF occurs. Progesterone is one of the most essential hormones in your body, for pregnancy. Without it at a 'good level' a pregnancy can fail. Progesterone is what keeps the lining from 'shedding'.....when a woman is pregnant and secretes HCG hormone (pregnancy hormone), it signals the corpus luteum, to keep the progesterone supply going. HCG also signals the body to 'STOP FOLLICULAR GROWTH'....You can not 'ovulate' during this rise in progesterone. That's why you can't ovulate, at random times during yoru cycle or during pregnancy.

Cd9 is a very early time to Ovulate. It happens, but 'rarely'. Follicules grow at a rate of about 1mm - 2mm a day. When they mature and reach, 18 mm or more, they can rupture if LH surges and they can release an egg that's mature enough for fertilization. The average size, follicule is about 22mm when it ovulates.

So to answer your questions. You didn't ovulate 'again', you probably didn't ovulate that early on. That specific opk was probably a false positive, that happens 'very often'. The test they used to tell that you ovulated, is p4 and it can confirm ovulation....weeks after O...in fact, throughout pg :)

It's my thought that you ovulated,....much later than you thought, and hopefully if you kept bding with your dh you are pregnant, that's why the hpt is not showing a bfp yet :) If not, then AF is not "late" just that your O date wasn't when you thought it was.
