autistic preschool...
Hi! i'm trying to help out my friend who had an interview at a preschool for autistic kids. they asked her to come back and do a demo lesson... they are 4 years old, and she doesn't know where they fall on the spectrum. just looking for some good ideas to help her out thanks!!

Re: autistic preschool...
where is the preschool if you dont mind telling:)
colors, shapes, following directions those are always good bets for demo lessons, especially with the autistic population.
do you know how many kids would be involved for the demo?
she could read brown bear, then have the students repeat the colors, then she could have some color cards for them to identify and then to tie it all in she could have them color in a picture using the colors they identified.
etd to add if she really wants to wow them she could come up with a group contingency plan and bring in some little toys for reinforcers.

Re: autistic preschool...
hi! thanks for the ideas! i'm a speech therapist at an elementary school, so i've never realy worked with autistic kids before so i was trying to help her, but wasn't too much help. we live in NJ, so the preschool is here. she just got engaged, so she really wants to do well on this and land the job i'll pass your ideas along! thanks!

Re: autistic preschool...
isnt it hard to prepare a lesson if you dont know where they are on the spectrum? there are SO many differences in their capabilities to respond/communicate back/pay attention or do neither.
Im sure there will be other adults in the room right?
I would try something interactive, so she gets an idea of who's attention she grabs and make the most of that.
Let us know how it goes. the best of luck to her
