Checklist for Rotty Puppy

Well, we finally get our baby tomorrow. We are so excited to be bringing baby home. It is a purebreed Rotty and she is beautiful.
We want to crate train and I am off the whole summer (teacher) so I will be able to train it and give it so much love!!
What do I need besides a create?? What food would I give it? any particular brand?? Thanks so much ladies!!

Make sure you have lots of newspapers to put down in the crate.

Non-toxic cleaner to clean crate with.

Water bucket to hang in crate.

Toys.

Treats for training--positive reinforcement.

Find out what type of food the breeder as feeding her. You don't want to switch the food outright. Or you may even want to stick with that food. If you do switch, do it gradually by mixing the food with whatever brand you go to. Ask your vet for suggestions.

Get her a blankie or use an old blanket for her crate.
Lot's of bones and toys.
A leash and collar AND most important - a name and phone number on a tag.
Any info from the breeder - shot info, any previous meds she's been on, any other info the breeder can possibly give you.
Food and water bowls

1. Crate
2. Receiving blankets work the best - have 2-3, so when one is dirty, you have another to give her
3. Treats - liver treats, kong treats, etc.
4. Toys - Kong, chewing rings, nylabones, dental chews, etc
5. Dog bed - for when they're not in the crate, they have something warm and soft to lay in
6. Food - talk with the breeder and get the same food they're feeding her. Once you see a vet, you can speak to the vet about switching the dog over to new food and how to do it. - Also get a storage container to keep the food/treats in, so it stays fresh and the dog won't be able to get into it.
7. Paperwork - all the breeder's vet info they've done on the puppy thus far to share with your vet
8. Flea Comb
9. Hair brush
10. Gates to keep the dog in a certain area of the house
11. Shampoo to wash the dog - it will have accidents, and they smell when their urine/poop dry on them. Ours had a major accident in the crate during the night and we had to bathe her the next day.

proud rottie mom here! We also got a childs' play-yard to put around the crate so she had an area to hang out in without causing trouble.

We eventually put the papers OUTSIDE her crate so she knew that she was able to do her business in a certain spot.

LOTS of chew toys.....she is an aggressive chewer and destroys tons of toys.
