Would you be upset?

I am very upset with what happened yesterday wehn I went to visit Harrison and Zachary in the NICU.....

I walked in and noticed that Harrison was moved.. he was now Diagonly across from Zach. He is in an open air crib and it is really easy to move him.. but i got very upset. i like to sit in a chair and watch them both because to pick them up and distub their sleep is just not he right thing to do. The nurse comes over and says to me " you ran way so fast for me to tell you that they were moved" So i said do they have plans to move them back together .. she said I should be lucky that they did not move him tpo another row...
I got hysterical crying .. and nobody said anything to me.. i was tota;y ignored... DOn;t they know it is stressful enough that I gave birth early still have tons of hormones and only see my babies for a few hours a day since I do have another child to take care of...and their oly problem now is to eat from the bottle.. then she proveeds to give Harrison his feesind through his tubbe rather than trying to get him to eat.. he is like my DD falls asleep during his bottle feedings.. it used to take me forever...

She was just so rude...and then I call .. they tell you to call day or noght and the nuse on the phone tells me she was just getting tot hem.. if you just got a report.. tell me that they are fine...

I am sorry to vent .. I am just so upset about this...I feel since my babies do not have any " major" medical problems that they feel like thgey can shuffle them around...

I guess i am feeling that I just want them home...and get on with my lie and get into a routine....

Having a baby/babies in the NICU is so stressful. We were lucky that my daughter had a relatively minor problem and I was still so upset. Unfortunately, I have had my fair share of close relatives in the hospital but the NICU is just different. No matter how you prepare the room it hits you like a ton of bricks. They are just so tiny and they have no one to speak for them and that is upsetting when something is done and you are not informed.

I know they move them a lot as they improve their condition but they at least could have told you first. Where are they? I know at Manhasset I had to check in at the desk and they would tell me if Chat Icon was moved.

My heart goes out to you and everyone else whose had a similar experienceChat Icon It's very hard to go home w/o your babiesChat Icon

Re: Would you be upset?

Thanks everyone!i feel a little better that i was able to vent...

I live in Westchester.. they are in Northern Westchester Hospital.. it is a great NICU.. and almost all of the nurses we deal with are so nice...this one I just did not like he vibe I got from her. The nurse I really like is on the next two days .. she is so good to the boys.. she takes such good care of them .

They are rally relaxed so i should be lucky that way because Jillian can come in an they do not give us a hard time,,, but i was very upset that they moved Harrison also since one nurse mentioned that thye are going to let them start sleeping closer together when Zach gets into a open air crib.. who knows..

Like I said before I just want them home

Oh wow! your post brought back a flood of memories. I went through exactly the same thing down to the hysterical crying when the moved Michael to the opposite room from Madison. I also had one nurse who use to call Michael "lazy" and give him his feedings through a tube instead of trying to get him to take the bottle. I feel your pain and frustration.

At this point you just need your babies home. They will get there and this will be a distant memory.

Us too. We had a very similar situation when one boy was moved into a crib and the other was still in an incubator. It sooo upset me and I asked for them to be back together (and the staff obliged). Looking back, with some perspective and not the hormonal roller coaster ride I was on, they really do what's best for the babies in the NICU. As a parent who's emotional, scared and unsure of what's going on, it's a terribly difficult situation. I'm glad to hear they're back together. Keep thinking that they are only there temporarily.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am so glad they are back together.

The tube feeding think really struck a nerve with me. One of my sons was a very slow eater too since he was so small, and he was supposed to take as much by mouth as he could in a certain time frame and then they would use the feeding tube. One nurse just used the feeding tube to save time and I flipped. I went to the head nurse and reported her, LOL. I also had said that I would be there for that feeding, I was visiting my other son who was in a different room, and she fed him earlier by putting it down the tube. She stole the one chance I had that day to feed my son and I lost the chance to feed my other son by leaving that room. I WAS SO MAD!!!!!

I told them I did not want her ever taking care of him again and they complied with my wishes, even if they were a bit over the top.

My point being speak to someone about it, the head nurse is there for you and will help you get the resolution you want. I felt like they didn't have time for him when they said it takes too long for him to feed, well yah know what TOO BAD, he needs to learn and they need to teach him. It never happened again.

I also do know that my sons were moved around alot without prior notice and at times I would go looking fro them and find out when I got to their empty isolette that they were moved.

Good Luck, they also have social workers I think that can help you, I am surprised that when they saw you crying they didn't get one for you.

Re: Would you be upset?

My girls were across from each other also. I asked why they were separated and the nurse told me that if they need to get to one of them and do testing, that I can still visit with the other without getting in the way. I understood that. They were finally put next to each other once they were both in open cribs.

BTW that is great the boys are doing well. hang in there.
