Anyone else starting to think about daycare?

I was told most places have waiting lists, I am just starting to do some research since I am home this week.

Re: Anyone else starting to think about daycare?

Yup Chat Icon I started looking yesterday, I went to 1 place which was a day care center and today I am looking at a day care home to compare the 2. I really wish I could find someone to come to my house and babysit but they so hard to find. Check out this website it gives you places that are licensed & shows any violations etc.

yes- and i am so unhappy about it. I found a place down the block from where i live- its Montessori. I am afraid to find out how much it costs. I may just have a nanny. I don't know...

I'm working from home 2 days a week so I only need someone for 3 days. I priced Tutor Time for a newborn and it's expensive - But so are all day care centers.

I keep thinking I should be a SAHM/Nanny. I wonder if there is a way to do that?

My neice went to Tutor Time in Northport and then in Smithtown I think, and they are very happy with it.

I should add too, that I remember my SIL telling me that now my 4 year old neice knows the computer better than she does!

But on the negative side, one time she came home with a bite mark (that can happen anywhere but a bit of a turn off to day care lol)

Re: Anyone else starting to think about daycare?

I was a nanny when I was 16-19. I loved it. I had babysat for a family since I was 12, then I started doing the summer months, then I did it for a year.

It is something that I would consider when I have a baby, maybe watch a 2 yr old.

Re: Anyone else starting to think about daycare?

If you want to watch children in your home you need a license from the country, a CPR course. Also, you need to decide if you will be claiming the income or trying to work off the books. And insurance against anything happening to the child in your home is important as well.

Bite marks will definitely happen - especially in the 1-2 year old rooms where they're learning to express their emotions but can't communicate yet.

I love my daycare - and it took almost 2years to get in (actually 1 year and 6 mos). The more expensive places obviously don't have waiting lists.

I dont think most Montessori takes infants, do they? Never mind just did a Manhattan search - parkwest & riverside do.

Re: Anyone else starting to think about daycare?

You can become a nanny or "certified" babysitter. You have to take a few classes (child abuse i know is one of them). Then you have to take a test. People come to your come to make sure its safe, and if all goes well, you can be a babysitter.
