Iguana help-please
My dad found a small iguana in his front yard. I'm assuming it's someone's pet because we live in the city.
The neighbor is keeping it in glass fish tank until they find the owner.
We are clueless..What to they eat?
Any advice of what to do with it if no one claims it?
My father was thinking of giving it to a pet store.
Thanks

Re: Iguana help-please
Mine used to eat romaine lettuce, sliced carrots, and apples. I think there is a special Iguana food at the pet store. They are great when they are small, but be careful of their claws (which could hurt) and the tail, which they use as a whip when they are defensive.
Good Luck

Re: Iguana help-please
Iguanas are vegetarians. We used to feed ours kale, carrots and apples. Iguanas also need warm climates to survive. Considering how hot it is, you may want to keep it in a tank outside or in the garage. If you are keeping it indoors with the air conditioning, you will need a heat lamp for the tank.

Re: Iguana help-please
lots of veggies. They love heat. rock/uv light would be ideal, or good ole sunshine (thank goodness for summer) and if you can give a calcium supplement, that would be best. I know it's just a temp. home though, so not sure how involved you want to get.
If they decide to keep, let me know, and I can give ya lots of advice.
I had an iguana that I saved from a Lab. he grew to be about 6 feet..yowsa, LOL
