Spinoff: Parent Letters

The letter I had to hand out in Florida was very generic to the school. If you don't mind sharing your letter please post here.

Re: Spinoff: Parent Letters

Here's mine. I attach it to a survey and other information about my classroom.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Fifth Grade! We have many exciting and challenging activities planned for this year. I am confident that together we can help each child have a productive and enjoyable year.
Attached you will find general information about our classroom I wanted to share with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
You will also find a survey. I view teaching as a partnership and you are a vital part of what we do each day. Your ideas, suggestions, and talents are more than welcome. Nobody knows your child like you. If you would kindly fill out the survey and return it to school as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you!

Sincerely,
Mrs. XXXX

I am having a hard time finding mine, but I'd suggest making sure that you are very clear about your policies. I had a couple parents give me a very hard time about my refusal to accept (ridiculously) late work, so the next school year I made sure my letter was very clear about that. Make sure your policies on discipline, homework, late work, lateness, etc. are very clear, if the school does not always specify it.

Also, make a tear piece at the bottom so that the parents can sign. This way if a parent comes in and claims that they did not know something, you have something to support you.
