Spinoff to tampons-o.b. TMI
I tried them YEARS ago when I first started using tampons and they just weren't my style. But apparently people use them, so can someone explain to me something...
when you insert them...do you basically stick your whole finger up? doesn't it get...you know...dirty? I know, gross, but I just can't fathom using them. But I think about all the cardboard and plastic we toss out wtih regular tampons and I'm debating a switch.
Also, how is the leakage issue?

My mom used OB and if I ran out-- I would need to borrow from her.

Yeah, that's what they have in the tampon thingie in the bathroom at my work...and once in a while in an emergency I have to use one. I don't like them either. And yes, you are right about how it works 
ETA Never had a leakage problem, at least not any more than with regular tampons.

To keep things clean, you really need to be safe, and wash your hands thoroughly before and after. That's why I wouldn't use this kind in public places.
The idea doesn't bother me. But I know it bothers some people. Just a different style.
No leakage.

I remember ob had a tampon with an applicater, but just for a while. I really liked them, but I really need an applicator.

I love them.
ok...to put myself out there and sound totally like a wuss...I am pretro of the cardboard applicator types.
I have visions of paper cuts..no can do.
I figure my finger is MINE...it can go anywhere.
and obviously you wash your hands after. so much less waste.

Ugh HATE cardboard applicators. They hurt! And you're right about the waste, I never really considered how much garbage there is around that little piece of cotton. Hmm. Next time I need to stock up at Costco I'll see if they carry them!

Random-but related...a friend passed me one when I was 17 and I yelled back "Um, this one's broken, do you have another?" She then explained it was an OB and there's no applicator...I responded with "How will I applicate it then? Huh?!?"
She said.....
