Re: RN

Honestly, I would think it pretty easy to get a position. I work for LIJ and they are always looking for nurses. I thought there was a nursing shortage?

Re: RN

It's pretty easy. Anyone I know who is a nurse has their choice of jobs and shifts. I think new nurses have it a little harder, but they can still find a position, maybe just not on the shift or floor of their choice.

Re: RN

I recently graduated from nursing school and I have to say that I am not finding it that easy to get a job. I had a 4.0 average and only one hospital has called me back in response to my application. Forget the North Shore LIJ hospitals -- I applied for so many positions there and no one ever calls me back. I am beginning to think they lied to us in nursing school about how in demand we are. Perhaps in other states it is easier but I am finding that on Long Island, as a new nurse, no one wants you.

im surprised - my best friend graduated in 04 with her degree, passed her boards - and she had her pick of jobs at winthrop, NYU in the city, LIJ.

Re: RN

IMO your best bet is to put your resume out there-- regardless of where you "think" you'd like to work... when i gradutated in 99 I applied everywhere, got interviews everywhere and had my choice of where I wanted to work.

People can say what they want about NUMC- but its where It rained, got the best experience I could- and now I am a traveler in DC... get your foot in the door somewhere and after you pay your dues you can go wherever you want

Re: RN

There is such a high demand for RN's it is relatively easy to find a position just about anywhere in the country. The easiest way to find one I found is to go to an RN open house hosted by a specific hospital or an RN career fair where there are several hospitals and other healthcare agencies. They're all over the place.

ETA: You might not always have your first choice of which field or shift you want but in general if you graduated from an accredited nursing school, have your nursing license and a pulse you'll get hired.

Re: RN

i've been a RN for 11 yrs now and i can tell you there is a shortage.. You may not get the shift you want, but that all comes in time. I work @ NS/LIJ & this one is infamously horrible with nurse recruiting-- you have to become a real pain just to get the recruiter to call you back.. When i graduated I walked alot of my resumes into the HR depts. Keep trying the jobs are out there!

Re: RN

What if someone wanted to change careers? What would they need - at least a 2 year RN degree, right?
