Best way to get to Boston?
My MOH just moved to Boston. I'd love to visit her, but she lives in an area with little to no parking available.
Are there any good mass transit options to Boston? I checked Amtrak, which seemed kind of pricey.

Jet Blue flies there now. You can fly into Logan and then take the subway to your friend.

Us Airways does have a shuttle...I believe when I was in school in Boston, Delta also started a shuttle...You can also take the train into South Station from Penn Station or from the Bridgeport ferry terminal...Greyhound does run the $15 bus from the Port Authority also

There is that cheapo bus from NYC that goes there for something ridiculous like $15. My friends uses it all the time. she swears by it.

Amtrak! You can take the train to Penn and then Amtrak is right there. My parents went to Boston last month by train and loved it.

Same here - my dad & stepmom went 2 weekends ago and said it was the only way to travel to Boston.

Chinatown Bus
My old roommate used to do this. It's the least-expensive way to get there.
Amtrak is nice and convenient but, sometimes it's cheaper to fly.

Re: Best way to get to Boston?
I would go Jet Blue.
There's always the Fung Wah bus for $15. each way, but their safety record is less than stellar.

Re: Best way to get to Boston?
Delta Shuttle out of the Marine Air Terminal in LaGuardia.
Bus out of Port Authority - just don't travel on a busy weekend, for some reason when I took the bus I always had a nightmarish experience with travel.
Amtrack is very pleasant but not cheap.
I would do the shuttle if you can afford it - leaves every hour and you have an open ticket for when you want to come and go.

Re: Best way to get to Boston?
I live just south of boston and fly to LI just about twice a month. Jetblue tickets to and from Boston are $59 each way if you book 22 days in advance- regardless of the day. And they run many flights per day.

Re: Best way to get to Boston?
I always rode the chinatown bus. It can't be beat.
also wanted to note, I had one sister in boston and the other one in philadelphia...I took a chinatown bus all the time to both cities. There is even a chinatown bus from NYC to asheville, nc...a different sister lives there, she took it once.

Re: Best way to get to Boston?
I am not sure if this would work for you, but when I was in college, my dad would drive me to the Orient Point ferry, I would walk on, and then when we got to New London, walk across the street and take Amtrak from there. It was the fastest way (besides flying, of course). The best ferry to take is the sea-jet from Orient Point -- no cars, "high-speed," gets there in 45 minutes.
Have fun!
