After two sleepless nights...and finally....

I'm seriously losing my mind...Riley has been waking up in the middle of the night...she goes out does her buisness...then when we put her back in her crate she whines sooooooo loud and forever! We are visiting my parents so I don't want her waking the whole house....the other night we took her in bed with us...and t his morning i've been up since 4am playing with her b/c she wouldn't go back to sleep...

She was doing so good...sleeping thru the night and now she seems to be regressing...if I was home I would just leave her in the crate, ugh

what else can I do? any tips?

Re: After two sleepless nights...

Are you wearing her out at night?

We found that if we play with Daisy up until 8:30pm/9:00pm, she'll wake once to do her business during the night and she'll go back to bed with us until our alarms wake up. Lately, she's been waking up, but sits in her bed chewing on hew toy until our alarm goes off and then she'll bounce on us to get us out of bed!

Re: After two sleepless nights...

i wouldnt let her out in the middle of the nite to pee. if she's in her crate, she'll hold it. and she needs to learn to hold it.

I used to put a blanket over bailey's crate (not covering the front) - because I read they feel more secure if they can't see thru all four sides of the crate.

he cried the first two nites I had him, after that he knew he wasnt getting out of there. now he goes in there just to lay down if the door is open.

It probably has to do with being at your parents house. They seem to get all out of sorts if the routine is broken in any way.
When we take Misty up to Ct. it takes a full two days for her to settle down.

Re: After two sleepless nights...

It could def. be that she is not in her own comfort zone...they get all confused by that...

But if she does it at home too, two things:

1) She has to learn to go potty before bed time, because she won't have the chance to go again Chat Icon

2) Wear her out like crazy before bedtime. When my Casey was a puppy, I would literally take her for a walk, then run in the yard with her, play ball etc. because she is such a hyper breed (Golden) that she needs the exercise.

Eta: I used a crate cover too. Worked wonders...I got it from Petedge.com.

We do let her out before bed, always have...I'm leaning towards the fact that we are not at home and she is not comfortable yet, b/c Morgan is acting a little homesick too....
I guess tonight I will try covering the crate and see how that goes

thanks ladies!

Try a half hour walk at night before she goes to bed.

Re: After two sleepless nights...

Last night was ok....we left her in the crate the whole night....she woke up about 3 times...whined for about 15/20 minutes and then went back to sleep....I felt bad, but when it comes down to it...she needs to learn that we sleep at night.
Its just rough, b/c she hears my brother get up for work at 4...then my dad at 5....so especially around those times she whines the most....
only two more weeks till we go back home and I can't wait!
