Spinoff to How many weeks were you when you registered

Wanted to get opinions -

Me and DH aren't having a baby shower - but would it be tacky if we registered? Honest opinions please =)

I know my job is begging me to register because they want to throw me a shower - and I know that family/friends will want to buy us things - but then again - i know that some people may think - "She didn't want a shower, but she still registered and think its tacky of me to do so....this makes people tend to believe im expecting gifts"

Im really not expecting anything, I don't want a shower - its a personal decision and in the same matter I know the baby will have everything it needs - but to make matters easier to me I thought it might be good to register for a few items so that family and friends could buy if they wanted too.

What do you all think?

Thanks!

I don't think there is anything wrong with that, in fact- I am doing the same thing! I know peopel will want to buy me gifts for the baby- so I would rather they buy me things I need, and not something else. My sister did the same thing- and she didn't have a shower.

Why not make a wish list instead? More for yourself, but if others want to make a purchase from it, they can? I don't think it's tacky at all!

I asked my sisters to make wish lists for all the kids (my nieces & nephews) so that I could just go online, and pick & choose what i wanted to order them for the holiday's. It's so much easier than having to guess at what someone may want.

I don't think its tacky, At least you will get what you want if people choose to get you gifts. It's so hard when people don't register because its so difficult to decide what to get. Also it eliminated doubles and returning what you don't want!

Thanks LadiesChat Icon
I guess im worrying about more what people would think and have thought in the past about registering and then not having a shower.

Personally I agree - its so much easier for the person buying the gift to know exactly what the person wants and likes - im going to rethink this one hard! Thanks again.

Re: Spinoff to How many weeks were you when you registered

It's not tacky at all. I did not have a shower since in my religion you usually don't. However I still had a registry.

People still want to get you gifts and trust me you will be getting from people you would least expect to get gifts from.

It is 7 weeks later (after Jacob is born) and we are still getting gifts....

not tacky at all...I was "forced" to register by my best friend and I had a super small shower. It's nice for those who want to get you something you need and they are unsure of what you want!

I think you should- the people that think it is tacky won't ask and won't even know.
