Contractions.....when to worry about them?

I've been experiencing random contractions, often after I've gone to the bathroom.

Re: Contractions.....when to worry about them?

You may just be experiencing Braxton hicks.. just keep watch of the time.. if they form in any interval, you may want to call your Dr.. Just to see what he says.. Usually labor is about 5 minutes apart.. however mine was not.. lol..

If they get REALLY STRONG.. call immediately! Good Luck.. I hope you feel better!

Lay down and drink lots of water, if they don't subside then call the doc, I had contractions around the same week that you are and I was on bedrest all day and the doc said if they became more regular in a 60 min time span to call! Feet up Shana and lots of H2o. That little girl can't come yet!!!Chat Icon

Re: Contractions.....when to worry about them?

I have been having them often for about 3 weeks- are they painful?

Mine are not, just a uncomfortable at times. Drink a lot of water and call you Doc- I was taken out of work for 2 weeks but am finally allowed to go back Monday because tge contractions are not really affecting anything (like my cervix). Good luck!

Re: Contractions.....when to worry about them?

BTW- if they are contractions ot be truly concerned about you woll be unable to talk or move, they ill take your breath away. Braxton Kicks are progression contractions that you can usually talk through but that make you say "wow, this is uncomfortable".

Re: Contractions.....when to worry about them?

My friend who is 8 months PG has been to the hospital 5 times in the last 3 weeks, all with braxton hicks, she said they are soooo strong, but the one thing she didnt notice was any burning. Usually full term contractions have a sort of burning element to them....Hoep that helps a little...They will also definatly come in intervals. They can stop but when your experiencing them, you can almost time them, usually braxton hicks are not in any type of coherent cycle.

Re: Contractions.....when to worry about them?

You should ask your doctor for a chart on Braxton Hicks vs real labor. I was 34 weeks when I had real labor pains. I looked at the chart & said "No, these are definitely not stopping and it's radiating from my back to my belly." I left a message on the dr's answering service to call me when they got in bc according to their chart, I was having contractions.

If you're worried about missing the fact that you're in labor, it's not going to happen. I have a friend who has an extremely high tolerance for pain - and got to the hospital with 20 minutes to spare. I don't have a pretty good tolerance if I know it's going to hurt and showed up with 7 minutes to spare. The majority of women show up at the hospital too early. My sister was in rush hour traffic going to Winthrop. They said she was only 1cm dialated & to go home. Her husband said there is no way I'm chancing her in labor during rush hour. They rented a hotel room right near the hospital.
