Re: angnick

she is so good isnt she? LOVE U!

We are looking for a dog that:

Doesnt get too big- no more than 20 lbs

that is good with children

that is hypoallergenic

that dh and i can both agree on

that is not too difficult to train ( i have helped train a maltese and a cockapoo, both very smart dogs)

that is a good companion/friend for both of us.

we looked at a shipoo last night and fell in love with her.. we'll see. i fall in love with every dog i see.

Would you consider a Havanese?

I do have 3 Havanese, and I love them to pieces! They are small (about 15 pounds), nonshedding, and hypoallergenic, which was important to us because my husband is allergic to most types of dogs. They have soft fur. I LOVE this breed and highly recommend them. I have an album on here if you want to check it out with my dogs.

They are the sweetest, cuddliest, most loving dogs and they are also very funny. Havanese used to be circus dogs. Recently, a friend of my husband's bought a Havanese puppy from the same breeder we used, and his puppy is wonderful with his 4 year old daughter so they are good with children. They say that they make good apartment dogs but like any dog, do need exercise. The only major drawback is grooming -- we get ours professionally groomed every 6-8 weeks.

Do you have any specific questions? I would be happy to answer them for you. In the meantime, here is some more info:

aww you guys are so nice. Chat Icon

I agree with Shanti with the Havanese. I'd also recommend a Shih Tzu. You can keep them in a puppy cut if the length of their "fur" is an issue. It makes grooming much simpler. Maltese I like, but they can be snippy depending on the line.

Spaniels are good, but there are some pressing grooming and health issues that could make or break them.....plus they also could have an unstable temperament depending on the lines.

I think you are on the right track, but I must again warn against "poo" mixes. Their temperament is not tested and therefore cannot be predicted. Poodles can be nasty, and are not great with kids.

I know someone who has a Shihtzu- I've met him before and he is adorable. She gives him the puppy cut.

Re: angnick

Ang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have the PERFECT dog for you!!!!

Vinny and I had the SAME EXACT requirements that you and your DH have when we went looking for pups!!!

Here she is......

A Miniature Schnauzer

1. does not shed and is hypoallergenic
2. she weighs 12 pounds- males can get up to about 16-18 pounds but females are smaller- like 12-15
3. she is VERY obedient and owner pleasing- she LOVES to make US happy- she is wonderful and she sits, lays down, stands up, shakes paw and goes to the bathroom all on verbal and non verbal commands- and we trained her all by ourselves in about 2-3 weeks she had it all down pat... And we have never had a dog before-- she was just an angel- very easy.
4. she is wonderful with children- VERY gentle.

I think that covers it! HTH!!!!
