Once you accept a commitment letter from a city school...

Are you tied to them or can you go elsewhere?

Re: Once you accept a commitment letter from a city school...

With the letter, you can get a NYC job anywhere in certain regions.

If you get a LI or private job and decide to leave the city you can't reapply for 1 year if before June 15th or 2 years after June 15th. (I think that's the date).

Did that answer your question?

If you find something better within the NYC system, you may have to get released from the principal.

If the committment letter is from a specific school than you are tied to it. If the letter is for the region then you can look at any school within the region.

I seem to remember my principal having to release someone who wanted to go to another school in the Region. I did some poking around on the UFT site, but didn't find any clear info. If something better does come up, you can call the UFT and ask- they would know best.

Re: Once you accept a commitment letter from a city school...

City-wide committment letter = anywehere in the city (this is what I got, they guaranteed me a job ANYWHERE I wanted)
Borough-wdei committment letter = the borough only
Region-wide committmet letter = the region only
School cmommittment letter = that specific school

I would be wary of getting a school committment letter...that really limits your options, unless you love the school.
