MsMBV and Jesaroo - Chinese Crested Questions
OK I have three final Chinese Crested questions:
1) I read that they are best suited for one dog homes (I am assuming this is because they don't want to share their people's love?) I know you both have more than one dog and I was wondering how they interact with the other dogs. We already have plans to add another dog in the spring, so I wanted to make sure the CC is ok with the other doggies.
2) Do you have any idea where I can see/hold a CC on LI? The breeder we would get our CC from is very far away (9 hour drive), and DH wants to hold a CC before he gives me the ok/no on if we can get one (to see if he is 'grossed out' by the hairlessness) and preferably before we drive the 9 hours to the breeder! I don't see any on petfinder.
3) Are your CCs housebroken? I read they could be housebroken, litter trained (!) or wee wee padded. Just wondering which route you decided to go.

odd, i've never read this. dharma was scard of other dogs when i got her simply becuase she was never exposed to them before. when i brought her home she was nervous around the other two but she was already 1.5 yr old. it took 2 months for her to be FULLY comfortable with them. the only thing she doesnt like now is them stepping on her.
with that said, i know most ppl that have a crestie have more than one dog.... often they end up getting more cresties. im telling you they are addicting. cresties are more nonchalant with other dogs in my exerience. you bring them to the dog run and they just like to watch the others play, but dont join in all that much. but that doesnt mean they dont like other dogs, they just coudl care less really.
i wouldnt let that discourage you from getting a crestie... i think mel will agree with me.. as would anyone else with one. i wouldnt worry one bit about adding more dogs to the pack!

hmmmm not really! Arlene of Gingery Cresteds is in Ronkonkoma and has GORGEOUS cresties. i can try to find her phone number and give you it.
Otherwise, if you guys are in the city for work or whatever i can bring Dharma for you guys to touch and meet.
the only person i know that wont touch her is my 13 yr old sister. shes a weirdo.
Cresties are soft. i know it sounds gross, and i probably wouldnt explain them to him this way, but their skin is so soft it is often referred to as scrotum-like!!! lol like baby skin!
it was weird to touch for like 5 minutes and then you get used to them.

Dharma was 100% trained to go outside when i got her.
I have since trained her to also use the wee wee pads.
i adopted her older, so i have no idea what potty training them like.

maybe they meant that they are ok in 1 dog homes (whereas some dogs get lonesome w/o another doggie buddy)?
Thanks for all the info. Hopefully I can convince Dh and then he can fall in love with the cresties personality (and get over the hairlessness). I think he is kind of feeling like it isn't a manly enough dog  Men I emailed the breeder in Ronkonkoma - so hopefully I hear back soon

Sorry I just saw this. I agree 100% with what Jes said. And if you want to come to West Babylon you can totally play with Pyxie. Yes their skin feels almost like a scrotum in a way, but tight. It is very smooth, except where there is hair growing. They can feel stubbly at times between groomings, and their hair feels like coarse human hair. Pyxie has a different kind of hair than Dharma, because she is a hairy hairless. Dharma is more of a hairless, so that is why they look different.
My dogs do very well with Pyxie & she loves all the other dogs in the house. She is very playful, so it is important to find another dog either the same size & temperament or maybe one that is very patient with a "puppy-like" attitude. I honestly cannot imagine Pyxie not being with other dogs....she is so social!
