tough day

hi ladies! today was a tough day for me. Chat Icon

first of all, i've been really feeling like i'm managing better and better with each passing day. i'm doing things without dh (since he's back at work), that i never thought i could do on my own-like going out in the car to places or going for walks to do errands or baths, or etc. etc. not to mention ebf and latching them both on for tandem nursing all day with only one set of hands!

it may seem silly, but all this stuff makes me feel proud. but today, forget it. they were both crying so much and it was impossible to soothe both of them. i felt really terrible. how can you possibly meet two babies' needs at the same time, all the time. i felt like i was just juggling them without really giving them what they needed. i would put one in the swing to stop him/her from crying while trying to rock the other. or i would put one in the carrier and then carry the other in my free arms, only to have them both screaming in each other's faces. if i tried to really just rock one to sleep, the other one would lay there crying and crying.

it's just heartbreaking to me. i guess eventually twins learn that they are sharing one mommy and that i will get to them, but for right now, they want what they want immediately.

does this feeling ever get better?

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you for EBF twins. I'm so impressed and even on the roughest of days, you should really be incredibly proud of yourself.

There will be days when the babies both want/need you at the same time and I've found that those are the toughest of times. You have to just do your best, and, like you said, hold one, rock one, rub backs, etc to keep them as calm as you can. Take each day in stride and try not to let one bad day upset you too much! You're doing a wonderful jobChat Icon Chat Icon

Like everyone said you should be so prouud of yourself...especially with breastfeeding by yourself...Hats off to youChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

YES, it does get better. It is tough when they are younger and they both NEED you and you just have to do your best to soothe the both at the same time. Sometimes I would cry with them, but it does get better.

GREAT for you for EBF!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

There were some days where I felt wow I could manage triplets - I've got this down! And there were other days where I stood by the door waiting for DH to come home.

The days I remember now are the good days - the hard days thankfully, only come once in awhile, and I think it is good to remind us how much work goes into having twins; it reminds you that even with how hard it is, you can do it.

You're doing a great job!!!! Be proud of yourself EVERY DAY! Chat Icon

It does get easier. I think that becuase I would let one cry while the other was needing primary attention at that time that is cause dthem to be more patient and give them the ability to share my time.

When I was feeding one and the other was crying I would try to position myself so the second one could see me and talk to them or sing to them, so they know I am still there, but just can't pick them up.

Congrats on EBF them and especially for tandem nursing, I could never get them to latch at the same time, so I just pumped. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with all of the other mommies and try to do what Michelle does. Sometimes you just have to practice "Triage" assess the situation and even though both need you go to the one who is more immediate need.

I think it also gives them some earlier real world perspective about being patient, earlier on than many children receive.

Congrats on EBF. I tried but had supply issues.

Re: tough day

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for you!! You ARE amazing for all you do! You are only one person and you do so much! There are days when they "gang up on you" and those days are always the hardest. A good nights sleep and a fresh perspective seems to always help... and so does sneaking into their room when they are FINALLY asleep, and watching them in their most precious moments. You are a great mommy- not many people could do what you do! Hang in there, these moments will get easier!!! Chat Icon

Re: tough day

YOu are doing a great job and i agree with all the other mommies. It does get easier and you just need to deal with one at a time and do the best you can. The babies will not remember any of this. They will begin to play with each other and you will get some sort of break if you can call it that. Like everyone said the 1st couple of months are the hardest..just hang in there and when they are both screaming just put them in the car and just drive around or take a long walk.

Hugs to you!
