Do Probationary full time positions.....
turn into tenure positions after a certain amount of years??

You have to be approved for it....but if you have not received tenure in another district, it takes 3 years. If you did have tenure somewhere else, its 2 years.

a probationary position should be on a tenure track.
at least that is what I always thought.

After three years, you can be recommended for tenure. As a pp said, if you had tenure in another district, you get it automatically after two years.

If you have tenure in another district you don't automatically get tenure in the new district after two years, however the tenure track is shortened to two years.

Unless the school does *not* recommend you for tenure, you do get it after two years if you've been tenured in the same tenure area in another school.

Yes, this is how I started my job but in June I got a call to sign on and my year counted toward my tenure track.

Probationary positions usually turn into tenured positions in 3 years, assuming that all of your evaluations are satisfactory.
