can someone help-- determining handbag authenticity.

This is not for any new bags-- in fact it's for an old bag.

I was taking a look at my old Kooba-- which I purchased in 2004. This was really before the brand really took off, and I purchased the bag cause I just loved the look of it so much.

I actually found it at PM Boutique (in Oceanside I think)-- I was with my mom and we were looking for MOB dresses. I decided to purchase it, and the woman special ordered it for me because she just kept one of each size on display.

Anyway, I say that this bag was purchased in 2004, because I would imagine that this was before anyone would even think to copy it. I paid $400 for the bag, and that was a deal-- the woman hooked me up. I forget what the original price was, but anyway, she allowed me to negotiate a bit.

Anyway-- the bag is beautiful soft leather.. it is a very well-made bag. I was considering selling it, and I don't want to put it out there without knowing all the facts.

Is there anywhere that I can figure this out-- for an old bag... before Kooba changed the lining, etc.?
Like things to look for, etc.?

eta-- I have googled a bit, but couldn't find anything.

Can you post some pictures? I've owned a bunch of different koobas. What kind of lining does it have?

The newer ones have a suede like material, the older ones were canvas I believe, a lot of them said kooba all over the lining.

You should visit

http://forum.purseblog.com/

They have a section on Koobas, you can ask some experts there. They are really helpful.

Also, the older bags have a leather pull tie instead of the metal zipper like the newer bags.

Re: can someone help-- determining handbag authenticity.

thanks-- well, that's exactly what I wanted to know...

The lining is white, with Kooba logo in different colors all over it.

The inside zipper, is like a regular zipper though.

Also, the Kooba branding on the outside is a stamp, as opposed to the metal plaque thing.

As I said before, the bag is beautiful leather, and the bag looks rich in every way... I would never have ever thought that it was not authentic.

I'm sure it is probably authentic, I think the fakes really took off in the last year or two

I agree. and from what you described about the bag, it sounds real to me.

Kooba has a trademark very heavy leather, that's another way to tell.

yeah-- that is what I was thinking... it was too early for it to be copied. In fact, I was so surprised that I was ahead of the curve when I people started talking about this Sienna bag everywhere-- I was like, go me!

And the bag weighs a ton. Good for me-- bad for my shoulders!

ETA-- thanks!!!
