Running for a cure
Donation website
Dear All,
I am writing because I have made a commitment to participate in the 2007 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training program. Since May, I have been officially training for my first marathon- The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon that will take place on October 7th. Yes, a marathon- 26.2 miles of fun! Those of you who know that I am not the most athletic person and often warmed the bench during any sports activity are probably thinking I am out of my mind. I think that too at times, but there is a main reason that is motivating me to endure this challenge- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Their mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the lives of patients and their families. Did you know that leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under age 20?
My inspiration
My big sister Keara was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease when she was 3 years old. At that time, Keara was the youngest person to be diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. She was so young and fragile and endured a year of treatment to fight this disease. Luckily, over time she beat the cancer. However, all the other children in her pediatric cancer group (most with Leukemia) did not survive. I could not even imagine not having her in my life and my heart goes out to those families who have lost someone due to blood cancer or any cancer for that matter. I am running in honor of Keara and the hundreds of thousands of individuals who are battling blood cancers today.
My fundraising goal for the marathon is to raise $4,000, but I can only succeed with your support. Please consider supporting me in this journey and help to save lives by making a 100% tax deductible donation to L&LS!
Please visit my fundraising website to make a donation:

Please note that ANY AMOUNT would be appreciated, the society would be pleased to receive whatever you can afford to help save lives! You have until September 15th to donate via the webpage. Please also visit to read updates on my training progress and reaching my fundraising goal!
Some important things to know about your donation:
· Patient services funds go directly to patient care and counseling, often helping to pay costs not covered by insurance
· Research funding has helped to develop treatments that have increased the survival rate of children suffering from Leukemia from 4% in 1960 to 85% today (that still means 3 out of every 20 children with leukemia will not survive)
· Donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are 100% tax deductible!
Remember: any amount you can afford would be appreciated and would go to a great cause!
Please inquire of your company for matching donations and feel free to share this with anyone you think would be interested in supporting me!
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Siobhan

Thank you so much for donating!!!
I'm doing good, up to 14 miles on my long runs. This Saturday I'm shoting for 16 miles and working my way up to 20 by Sept. 15th. CRAZY!! I'm a total beginner, never ran before but the coaches are really good and the program gives you a good base.
