Javits Center.....waste of time????
Did anybody else feel this way? I was so annoyed that we had to be there at 7:45 SHARP and it didn't start promptly. I woke up so early and walked it from Penn to The Javitz Center. The walk was actually the most enjoyable part of the day.
The performers were AMAZING, but I would have rather gotten an extra hour sleep. I have had NO time off this summer and have been at training for another job all week.
It was freezing there too and they wouldn't let me out to get a cup of tea to warm up.
I left super early and probably missed the most informative portions, but I couldn't stay any longer.
Other opinions???

I went.. the music in the morning was killing me and I was also freezing.. brutally cold. I basically got confirmation for everything that I already found out on my own.. salary step, health insurance.. etc. The best part was the free stuff at the end. The other things that were good... HR direct. They are a new part of DOE that handles all calls and questions. They are actually very helpful.. what a difference when you call DOE now. And we got a list of very helpful numbers from the UFT for anytime we have a problem.

I have very low blood pressure and poor circulation due to some health issues I have and I just couldn't sit there any longer. My fingers and toes were almost numb.

My feet were pretty much frozen.. flip flops were a very bad idea. We got a NYCDOE shoulder bag, two books.. i think one is that wong book.. I don't like it.. a travel hot cup, notebook, pens, a couple other things. And I got free stuff from staples during the fair. Sorry u missed that part.

I have a convention there on Friday for something else... are you guys suggesting that maybe we shouldnt wear flip flops or open toed shoes??

Let me put it this way... I don't think I have ever been that cold in my entire life inside. But also keep in mind that it was cold and yucky outside today which didn't help matters.

I went and was supposed to be there at 7:45 but got there at 9 so I saw a little bit of the performance...was glad I wasn't there the extra time.
I also dressed pretty warm so cold wasn't an issue for me. I thought the sessions were pretty informative and loved the bag of goodies we got. The vendors were good as well, esp Staples

I was so annoyed this morning. I couldn't beleive I got there at 7:45 for over an hour of music. I thought that was really wrong. Between that and the following 2 hours of speeches the first 3 hours were such a waste. I was dosing off the whole time. The workshops were really good though. I got a lot of answers I needed to questions re: salary step & differential, reducing my probationary time, and seniority. I was impressed with the goodie bag, I didn't expect to get so much.
I am more concerned about tomorrow. I'm planning to go to the instructional day. But a few people I met today told me they went on Monday and Tuesday and it was a total waste. However, they did say that you get paid (the training rate I guess) and they gave out a $20 Staples gift card. I still really don't think it's worth going but I am so paranoid that I am expected to go by my principal and maybe shouldn't bail. Anyone go yet or going tomorrow?

Def not going again. It cost me $21.50 to get there, so even if they gave me a $20 Staples card, it isn't wroth it. I do not think it is worth the time. If we didn't know what to do in our classrooms, we wouldn't have gotten hired. Each school is so different, that I think you need to learn at your school.

not sure. the person i heard talking about it said it was $70 for the 2 days. i think she meant per day but you never know!

I spoken to several people at the javits and everyone said the instructional part was a total waste. I'm' not going tomorrow.. I have a dr. apt. I may go on Friday..
