Autobody/Plumbing jobs to support family

My husband has been in the autobody industry for 10 years. I had a baby 12 days ago and my job which gives us our medical benefits just laid me off. He is looking for a job that can offer him benefits. We live in Suffolk County (coram/port jeff area). He is also willing to go into another career field in order to support our new family. Can anyone give me any information on autobody jobs with benefits or even a job in the plumbing field or something like that. He is a very very hard worker and good with physical labor. Thank you so much

i know its hard but what about trying to get into a union? like carpenters, electricans or plumbers?

Do you know how to go about doing that? He was thinking about the plumbing union but didn't know how to go about doing that. Thank you so much for posting.

If you don;t mind me asking , why is he looking for a job out of the auto body industry...??? And what about mechanics?

if he was interested in becoming an electrician i think all he has to do is go down to the union hall and find out when the give the test..its like once a month for local 25,..the hall is in hauppague..thats the union my dh is in..not sure if that helps ( right now iam a sahm so salary is livable for a family once he tops pay) hth

Thank you for the responses. He is looking to get out of the autobody industry b/c he can't find any that offer medical benefits. I will tell him about the electricians union. Does anyone know any info about the plumbing union?

I know that somewhere in Queens (sorry, I don't know exactly where, though maybe LIC) are many union training facilities and headquarters. My brother was in the marble-tile-terrazzo union and I'm pretty sure the plumbers were there too.

I think for most trade unions the first step is to do an apprenticeship.
