Re: What the *@$&!!!
I sure as heck didn't in my old school! And don't forget, I'm not a teacher - I don't get any preps or planning periods

Re: What the *@$&!!!
My district has at least one administrator on lunch duty during each of the periods. It's supposed to help with the management in the cafeterias - but I've never seen a guidance counselor do it!

Re: What the *@$&!!!
I've never heard of a guidance counselor having any kind of duty. I've never had to it. But I have had a prep as a counselor. You're a part of the teacher's union and contract right? You should get the same 1 prep and 1 lunch that they do. They use an extra prep and get a duty that we don't though. I think that's how they balance it out to be equal.

I have never been in a school where the counselors got a prep - i have been in schools where the counselors took an extended lunch since they didn't get a prep - but what I've learned is that counselors just get $hit on no matter where you are.

Well, unfortunately, some schools feels it's EVERYONE'S job to do some sort of duty. In my school, no matter who you are or what you do, you get lunch duty and bus duty. Look on the bright side...you're part of the team (Yes, that IS what we're told )

That's how it was when I taught in Catholic school.
Guidance counselors are sometimes called upon in the school I'm in now (public) during mid term and final exam periods but it's usually just for short periods to provide breaks for proctors.
