NYC teachers - benefits question

I am asking because I might be working at a school this fall and i was wondering how the health benefits are?

In terms of health...I have ghi cpb or whatever it is with the optional rider. We also get dental and vision. Can't beat that.

In terms of retirement...well, it's fantastic. I do the TRS, which is not really optional, and the TDA which is optionial but you want to do that. Start those right away and have them take out as much as you can do without. Remember, they take out pretax, so it isn't horrendous. I do 10% which isn't crazy, but it's what I can afford to do.

And then there is the whole benefit about summers off...yeah, I like that benefit a lot!
