Natural or C Section? Advice (Long Sorry)

Hello ladies,

I had a high risk drs appointment yesterday where they told me both of my babies weigh 5 lbs each, which I am happy about....they are both in the head down position and ready to go. Unfortunately I am not dilated yet...

Anyway my High risk dr asked if they scheduled a date for me and I told him no. I then went to see my regular Dr who is in the same office and he said that he thought I would have them naturally but I did have an option for a section.

Now I dont know what to do since this is my first pregnancy so I am hoping that maybe you guys can help me.

Did you have a c section or natural?

Would you change how you delivered if you had to do it again?

How was your recovery from either one?

Did they schedule a date for your natural birth or just wait it out? My Dr wants me to go 39 weeks but I dont think my body can handle it at that is another story.

I guess I am just scared of pushing out 2 babies......

Thank you again,

Melissa (35 weeks 4 days)

I delivered naturally and I say if they are in a position to do so, why not try? Worst that can happen is you wind up with a C-section.

At 38 weeks, I was not dialated yet so they induced me. Both were head down so we decided to give it a shot. Recovery was not so bad, I was out of the hospital in 2 days and felt MUCH better after a week.

Hang in there!

OK, I'll tell you what happened with me but I don't think it's typical at all.

I went natural. They were in position like yours. My docs induced at 38 weeks to the day. The induction was scheduled about a week before. To be honest, I was very releaved that they didn't automatically want to do a c-section. I've never had an operation Chat Icon and was really hoping I would not be cut... one of my few fears. Of course, you have to do what you have to do and I would have done it but I'm glad it happened the way it did.

Wouldn't change a thing. The hospital and staff were great. I was releaved to be induced because the hospital I delivered at was far from my house and as I was getting closer I was having visions of being that woman on the cover of Newsday who gave birth to twins on the side of the LIE with cops assistingChat Icon

Like I said above, I was scheduled a week before and if they didn't come within that week then that was their birthday.

The induction went very smoothly as well.

I was also natural. Both boys were faced head down, and I was 2 cm dilated for weeks,. and was induced at 37 weeks. The Dr. wanted to wait another week, but I couldnt.

If you can go natural, I would try it, like Pinky said the worst that will happen is you get a C-section.
They had me pushing in my room till I was really ready and then they brought me to the OR just in case they had to do an emergency C-section with the second one.

I was happy I had them natural, because the recovery time was easier especially with twins.

Re: Natural or C Section? Advice (Long Sorry)

My doctor wanted me to go to 39 weeks as well - I thought he was nuts.
So I had to have an emergency c-section at 37 - one baby was transverse and one was breech - no natural for me anyway.

If I had the choice though - since I have been thru both now - I would definetly pick natural over a c-section.
I thought the c-section recovery was way harder than natural.
I personally was in a lot of pain after my c-section.

Good Luck with whatever you decide. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Natural or C Section? Advice (Long Sorry)

Both of my babies were head down and I wanted to try for a natural delivery. I knew that the worst case scenario was that I could have one of eacy type of delivery. My doctor sees no reason to pursue a serious surgery unless it's necessary. I went into labor early at 34w and went for natural (no drugs). Baby A came out naturally and baby B fell into place but w/ his cord below him. We waited for a few contractions to see if it would move and it didn't. He was a c-section.

All in all, the recovery was quick and I wouldn't have changed anything. I was in good hands and felt that everything that could have been done, was. I've got 2 wonderful (almost) one year olds to show for all the hard workChat Icon

C-section - I got to 8 cm and didn't progress.

Would you change how you delivered if you had to do it again?
Well it would have been nice to push them out but in the end it was a beautiful birth to 2 healthy beautiful babies! Chat Icon

How was your recovery from either one?
It was fine - I was up cleaning my bathroom the next week, taking walks and able to take care of them no problem right from the start!

Did they schedule a date for your natural birth or just wait it out? My Dr wants me to go 39 weeks but I dont think my body can handle it at that is another story.
They would have scheduled me if I had gone to 38 but I only made it to 36.

Good luck! Chat Icon

I had a c-sections. I was 39 weeks and thought i would never go into labor. I was not even dilated. I was happy w/ my decision. The babies were born within a couple of minutes. I went in at 7:45 am. Bridget was born at 8:06 and Alanna a minute later at 8:07. Both babies went to the regular nursery. We were all home 4 days later. The first couple of days were rough. I had them on Friday and was showering by the next day. (Very slowly) But by the time i left the hospital I felt much better. I had my husband home for a couple of weeks, which helped since I could not drive for 2 weeks.

I was not cleaning the bathroom Chat Icon like FireIsland Love, but grocery shopping and christmas shopping by the first week.

Re: Natural or C Section? Advice (Long Sorry)

i had a c-section at 37 1/2 weeks. i could no longer take the pain, my babies were pretty big (8 lbs 12 oz and 6 lbs 15 oz) and baby b was sideways across the top.

my doctors seemed eager to go for a c-section, but were willing to let me try a vaginal birth. but by the time i was nearing 38 weeks and baby b was not moving, we started talking more about c-section. i was not at all dilated and having no contractions. just massive pressure and discomfort.

my recovery was pretty great. i had some pain, but only needed to take advil. i was very fortunate to have my dh home for 9 weeks, so i didn't have to do any household chores. i did nurse the babies, so i think that helped with my recovery, helping to shrink my uterus back.

good luck!! can't wait to hear about your birth!!
