NYC elem teachers Help!
Hello,
I am a new 4th grade teacher. How does scheduling work?
8:30-10:10- Readers Workshop
10:10-11:00 Special
11:00-12:00 Math
12-1250 Lunch
1-150
150-2:30
One more period is Lab science
Is writers workshop also 100 minutes? We need to have writer's workshop 3x a week. There goes 1-2:30 three times a week. I am left with 3 periods a week for SS, Sci, Handwriting ect.
Should all SS and Science be done in Reader's Workshop?
How often in handwriting done?

Why not do writer's workshop once a day for a shorter period of time and then do Social Studies and Science after? My biggest mistake when I was a new teacher, was scheduling. In my expereince fourth graders cannot write for a very long period of time everyday.
You may incorporate some social studies and science in your reader's workshop at different points of the year. Good lUck and have a great school year!

This is how my 4th grade goes:
8:20-8:35-ELA
8:35-9:20-ELA
9:20-10:05-Math
10:10-10:55-ELA
11:05-11:50-Math
12:00-12:50-Lunch
12:55-1:40-Science(which is a prep)
1:45-2:30-Social Studies
That will be a typical day with preps moved around
I have to do 2 guided reading groups a day as well as shared reading and 30 min. independent reading each day.
we have Science 4x a week....SS is 3x a week...handwriting is throughout

8:30-8:45- Unpack/Morning Message
8:47- 9:30- Read Aloud/Response/Shared Reading
9:30- 10:15- Reader's Workshop/Guided/Confereces/AIS Intervention
10:15- 10:47- Phonics/Word Study
10:47-11:38- Special/Cluster
11:39-12:30 Lunch
12:30-1:15 Writer's Workshop
1:15 2:30- Math
2:30ish to 2:50ish- Science/Social Studies, which are clusters so they only need to be covered 1 more period a week.

you may have 100 min of writing workshop, I only have 45 min for WW but math is 60.
