NYC Teachers-4th Grade Literacy Q!!

Hi teachers!


I am teaching a 4th grade self-contained class. I will be doing TC for the first time.

I have a question with shared reading: Where do we get the materials/text for this? We have to do shared reading as part of Word Work, but I'm confused what I should be reading with the students for this.

Please help!!

Welcome to teaching in NYC - As you will soon figure out there are hardly any materials provided for you to use for reading. Ask others on your grade level what old books and sets may be hidden and forgotton in people's classrooms. What school are you in? I'm 4th grade in Brooklyn. Materials are few and far between.

Most things I use are "borrowed" from teacher friends that work on Long Island.

You can also use social studies and science texts for your shared readings.

Thanks for the response. I am in Queens. I will definitely ask my co-workers about what they are using. Hopefully, there is something in the school because I feel like I'm already spending so much $$!!
