I would go to some local schools with good MA programs in education to see what you need and how to go about getting your Masters and certification. Good luckChat Icon

Where do you live? There are many schools that have that major. I went to LIU C.W. post for my masters in literacy which is only 30 credits for the certification. I am not sure how many more you would need for the other courses for just teaching though...Good luck.Chat Icon

Re: Always Wanted to be a Teacher

To teach middle/high school, you would need 18 undergraduate credits in education plus student teaching, then a Master's which is 30-33 credits.

You only need those 18 credits and student teaching to get a full-time teaching job, though. Well, that and passing a couple of exams that are pretty easy -the LAST and ATS-W. You don't need a Master's; you can teach for 5 years without that. I think the schooling requirements for elementary school are tougher and that takes longer.
