Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

Until I decided to be a pescaterian, I was doing hard core low carb and lost a bunch of weight that way (~22 lbs). It's harder trying to do that while the only "protein" I eat is fish and trying not to overdo it on fish because of the mercury. It's definitely an effective way to lose belly weight though!

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

I actutally lost about 30 lbs doing the "carbhohydrate addicts" diet. I've pretty much kept it off (I play with 10 lbs- which gets my @ss in gear!!)

To be honest what has been most effective for me is- watching carbs and counting points. Notice I said watching- not eliminating.

IMO by cutting them out totally you lose weight FAST- but then- have a piece of pizza and its right back again.

Before our wedding DH and I would not eat carbs at night- and any carbs we did have were not sugary or processed. It worked well for us!!!

I want to get back to following South Beach. I just always have trouble getting through the first 2 weeks. Its works well for me and I find if I have a treat its easy to go right back on plan because it's not a no carb plan, just a healthy carb plan.

I am with you Ginger124!

It's a lifestyle change that works....and that does not make you feel deprived. It allows you to lose weight and when you really need a treat, go for the real thing, without feeling guilty or deprived, because the majority of the time you are good.

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

I would suggest a low glycemin / low carb / diabetic diet rather than an adkins kind of diet ... it is much more healthier, as we do need complex carbs to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

FM me if you want some information on it ... since having Gestational Diabetes I have been following the low carb/low glycemic diet.

What do you do when you have a sweet tooth? I find even after I "cleanse" I still like something sweet sometimes and this is usually my downfall.

I just wanted to say that if you follow Atkins correctly (which most people don't), you add these carbs (fruits, whole grains, etc) back into your diet slowly to see what your body can handle and how each food affects you

Most people think the "induction period" where you limit your carbs to under 20 for 2 weeks is all Atkins consists of...and its just not true

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

I am back on the atkins kick starting this morning.

I was doing Atkins in July and I lost 13lbs. I then went on WW and lost another 4 lbs. Since then I have gained back 6lbs. I have been bored with WW, and I cannot stick to it. On Atkins it was hard but I kept myself on plan.

This morning, since i am working from home I made myself a good breakfast.

Coffee with Half and Half and splenda

4 eggs with onions, red peppers, and mushrooms.

I am full.

For lunch I will have a salad

For dinner I will be making Chicken sausage that is stuffed with cheese and parsley.

A few veggies, and maybe a salad.

I have fresh green beans for dessert.

Have you found that you need to cut Diet soda completely out to lose more weight on Atkins? I do like 1 or 2 diet sodas a day, but I usually drink Water with Crystal light for flavor or flavored seltzer.

Should I avoid diet soda completely?

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

Welcome back Scott Chat Icon

I think different things affect everyone differently

I would try cutting out the soda for a week and see if it makes a difference

I usually have 1-2 sodas a day

I try to limit my Splenda to 3 a day...I have a problem with that Chat Icon

I completely agree. Adkins/South Beach in itself aren't bad diets ... but most people do not do it right and when someone mentions them I am always hesitant to say 'go for it' ... I believe you need to know nutrition and good eating habits before you can start any diet ..

this is how my DH will diet .. a 300+ lb man .. when he wants to lose weight, he will skip breakfast, then eat an apple for lunch, then try to eat steamed chicken with vegatables for dinner .. it lasts 2 days and then POOF, a box of cookies is gone. It drives me NUTS that he cannot grasp the conceot of nutrition and healthy choices ... instead hit's feast or famine which never works.

Since I have been doing to low carb/low glycemic diet, DH has been following it with me and understanding it a bit better.

Sorry to get off on a tangent there, LOL.

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

Scott- Are you still on induction?

Cause thats way too much lettuce.

Romaine is better then Iceberg, iceberg is the worst on atkins. Boston lettuce is the best.

3 cups of salad ( loosely packed...which is about 10 small pieces a cup) is your total carbs for the DAY on induction.

And contact Omaha Steak company. I believe most of the steak companies that deliver inject sugar into their meats.

Just in case your not losing enough, there are some tips......

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

Sugar into their steaks....thats odd.

It was a very small head of lettuce, that is why I made so much....or it sounds like it was so much.

I usually get romaine but this was all we had in the house.

Tonight I am going to have a greek salad with gyro meat for dinner.

Do you eat tomatoes?

Re: Anyone still doing Low Carb?

I am down 15 pounds. I had a rough weekend though. We were away in Virginia so I ate what I wanted. I am back today on Atkins and I am going to start induction over. Saturday is my birthday and I am probably going to eat what I want again. Should I just watch myself this week and start induction when I come back fromy my birthday weekend?
