Before the wedding I was on Atkins and have to say that I loved it. I lost 70 lbs when all was said and done but after the wedding I went off, then had a baby and just got so fed up. I tried getting back on but I just cannot do it. So....I joined WW. I am doing it online right now. My company is going to set up the lunch hour mtgs soon but I didn't want to wait until then - just adding on the pounds so I signed up yesterday. So far so good but I have so many questions. I have a lot of reading to do.

For those of you who do WW...can you share a typical menu(s)?

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I try not to eat the same thing all the time because then I'll get bored. But, here is a sample menu:

Breakfast: 1c Non fat vanilla yogurt with 1c strawberries -- 2.5 pts
Coffee with a splash of FF milk and splenda - 1 point

Snack: usually fruit or fruit juice (1 or 2 pts depending)

Lunch: Chicken (usually 4 or 5 oz) with 1 or 2 cups of veggies, depending on how hungry, medium sweet potato.

Snack: WW snack bar, or fruit, or soy chips, or pop corn.

Dinner: 4.5 oz turkey burger on WW pita bread. Salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, artichokes, peppers, feta or goat cheese, and FF Italian dressing

Snack: This is the hard part. I try not to have a snack, but if I really have no will power, I'll have a WW ice cream or WW smoothie.

The main thing for me is MEASURE! Invest in a scale and always have your measuring cups. I even have some in my drawer at work. Measuring is key for me. Remember, if you estimate, you always add a little, never take a little away. And that all adds up. You can take any recipe, really, and make it low cal, low fat. Just improvise and don't deprive yourself.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon

And, one more thing. If you don't have time to make your lunch or dinner, have a SmartOnes or Lean Cuisine. I know they are not the most healthy,l but it is still better than just finding anything you have, because then you have binge potential.

Often for lunch I'll bring a lean cuisine and microwave steam veggies (the ones in the bag) and just add the whole thing to the LC meal. Usually the veggies only add another point or 2, so you can have a nice 8 pt. lunch.

They do have things you can compare food to which are every day items. 3 oz of chicken breast would be like 3 fingers (like your fingers on your hand). an oz of cheese is like a piece of dice. I never measure accurately that way, so I always use my scale.

I would seriously invest in a scale. They're cheap and you can even find them at the grocery store!! I used to estimate but now I love weighing things - it's almost fun Chat Icon

Re: Just joined WW

I restarted WW again too! I know that Atkins is better for me, but I can seem to stay on it after about 4-6 weeks. WW has not worked as well for me in recent years as it did earlier, but I'm hoping it will be successful this time! Best of luck to you and we can all support each other!
Def get a scale - best thing ever - and make sure you have good measuring cups. Azad, I like weighing food too, better than weighing myself!

Re: Just joined WW

Yay Ang! I am so proud of you. Welcome to Team WW! I love this so much more then low carb. I feel like this is a plan I can stick with and not have guilt after eating pizza or a piece of bread. You will do fabulously!

Here are some things I eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner:

Breakfast:
Quaker Instant Oatmeal (I actually like Oatmeal...who knew Chat Icon) with 1 cup 1% milk. 2 points for Apples and Cinnamon and 3 points for Maple and Brown Sugar, milk is 2 points for 1 cup
1 cup Raisin Bran Crunch (3 points) w/ large banana (2 points) w/ 1 cup 1% milk
Azad Breakfast Sammie (1 point light bagel, egg whites, 1% cheese)
Weekends I will go to the deli and get egg whites with turkey and swiss on a whole wheat wrap or a short stack of pancakes at the diner. I eat them without the butter and with 2 oz. of syrup.

Lunch:
At work usually a lean cuisine or left overs or WW pita with grilled chicken or turkey and 1% cheese.
Lunch on weekends usually is FF hot dog with frozen fries or I also really like Wendy's Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich and baked potato.
Also like to get Steamed Chicken and Veggies with brown rice from the Chinese place.

Dinner:
Baked chicken with FF Italian Dressing with brown rice.
Terriyaki Marinated Grilled chicken with grilled corn.
Philly Gourmet 3 point burger on a light bun with sweet potato fries.
Discovered a really good low fat chicken fajita mix at trader joe's and put that on a 2 point missoni tortilla with FF sour cream.
Pizza once a week.
Pro-portion (cafe that serves all WW meals)
Cereal Chat Icon
Whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce

Snacks:
Fruit...all kinds. My favorites are watermelon and apples.
Yogurt - I really like the WW 1 point yogurts
Trader Joe's Cat cookies
Oreo 100 calorie packs
Pop Secret 100 calorie pack
Rita's small mango ice for 3 points

So that is what I have been eating for the last few months and I rarely feel hungry. Good luck Ang and ask all the questions you want!

Thanks everyone! I am really excited about this..although I have to admit that it's weird to make the switch from Atkins to WW...nevermind that I was on Atkins for about 9 years Chat Icon

But so far (one day into it anyway) so good!

I just saw the Chili recipe - definitely going to try that! I love using the point tracker online...it's like a fun game for me. I will definitely get the scale...I think I even have a BB&B coupon so I can look there! Chat Icon
