Lice????
one of my girls was scratching today, so I sent her to the office and sure enough, she has lice. This is the 1st time in 5 yrs of teaching that I've ever had to deal with this. I just had a nightmare that lice were jumping all over me - ewwww.
How did/do you deal with this? Is it easy to get it from them? I'm freaked out...thanks in advance

Re: Lice????
I asked the nurse about this last year. Wear your hair back, in a braid or a bun and use tons of products... hairspray and gel. The bugs usually stay away from those.

Re: Lice????
I haven't had to deal with it but I would put my hair in a french braid every day and spray it with skin so soft or some other bug repellent that doesn't have a harsh smell. At least until everyone in the class was clean.

Re: Lice????
the student should NOT be returning to school unless the lice has been treated. keep sending that kid back to the nurse if you notice anything.
also, the hair must be treated with a lice prodct. ALL towels, sheets, pillowcases, etc. etc. must washed thoroughly, otherwise, the lice keeps coming back. the nurse should be reiterating this to the parents.

Re: Lice????
Ask for your rugs and carpets to be put into wraps of saran wrap material or garbage bags because even hot water does not kill lice. They must be suffocated in the rug. Ew!

Re: Lice????
I had this last year, and it was a nightmare. I wound up having the kids put all of their closet stuff (backpacks, coats, etc,) in huge garbage bags tied in a knot. It was a pain but everntually the kids got used to it
I also had the nurse check me often bc I was CONVINCED that I had it a few times!

Re: Lice????
I had a girl who was sent home 5 times in one year. Apparently, mom was just cleaning her hair but not the couches, car seats, etc.
