Can't cope.....I witnessed a very bad fight

it happened after school and off school grounds. They beat the kid up so badly. I couldn't do anything about it. I was too scared to approach them, not sure if they had weapons, and tried to call the cops, but it was long over before the call was even finished. My friend and I got in our car locked our doors and took off. We were so scared. I don't even know if the kid was okay.

I put my own safety first and I feel horribly. I am still shaking/crying/miserable.........this is so hard.....I knew I was in a "bad" neighborhood, but this is too much. I can't walk away and not care, it just isn't me. I can't stay and help because I am too scared. I don't knwo what to do.

I'm sure you did the right thing. There have been a couple of times when I have gotten into the middle of an altercation and later when thought about it realized that I could have been hurt.

You tried to call the police and that is all anyone can expect. Teaching does not mean placing yourself in harms way.
