How do you break the really hard, difficult, mean, disgusting, nasty, obnoxious, bully-ish kids?

but seriously,kids like this often are craving attention and don't care if its negative or postive. I would take them aside privately and see if there is something going on. I would be firm with them, but try focusing on postive things, for example, try to give them a responsibility, something they might be proud of.

I have found that students with these issues need attention and seek it from their teachers and peers. What has worked for me is consistency in how I handle these behaviors (identify the comments/acts as being wrong, communicate this to the student in a private way where he/she won't get attention, and positively reinforce good behavior). As a former middle school teacher, and as a current high school teacher, I have seen my fair share of students with these issues. Whatever you do, do not yell at them, and do not address the issue in front of the whole class.

I have a zero tolerance for bullying. And I also do not tolerate kids that are mean or nasty to anyone. I lay down the law from day one.

I kill em with kindness and attention...it takes months though but after they see the class aint having it anymore, they usually convert.

I deal with 3rd /4th grade though

I hate those kids... I'd rather have a million of the chatty, hyper but sweet kids than the rude, nasty kids who have no manners.

I don't know what to do with them. I just hope every day they won't show up.

I stay on top of them like MAD until they just cannot take the sound of my voice or my close proximity any longer!

When they are clearly annoyed with me I ask them, "Do you want me to leave you alone? REally? O.K. then, leave everyone else alone and get to work."

They hate me. I dont care.
