Leave Question

If you were working in a school as a sub would you have to approach a principal about being interested in a leave position or would they approach you?

I am getting the feeling they would let you know if they were interested in you Chat Icon I asked the head secretary if there is anything I need to do to be considered for any positions that may open and she later told me she spoke to the pricipal and that I just need to "shine". Teachers are requesting me, kids are constantly approaching me in the halls and at recess with hugs and high 5's, what more should I be doing? Chat Icon

Thanks

Re: Leave Question

I know in my school, permanent subs have gone to the principal and expressed interest in the leave replacement positions. Of course, they had to be interviewed like everybody else, but it definitely doesn't hurt to ask and express interest.

I agree... by speaking with her about the position and its specifics shows drive and interest. Also, some subs just want to sub...they don't want the responsiblity of their own class, so if you don't tell him/her that you want to be considered for long-term or permanent positions, they might not know.

Also, if teachers are requesting you, that is a positive sign. principals often ask teachers who out of the perm. subs they would like to cover for them!!!

Re: Leave Question

you definitely have to be persistent and make your intentions clear. they're probably not going to approach you. they want someone who is a "go getter" and approaching them is the way to go

I would say you must express interest. Talk to the principal and have a resume handy.

Re: Leave Question

I handed my resume in May for September...the principal practically threw it in the garbage...that next fall in October there was an incident in the class I was subbing and the principal practically begged me for my resume...guess she forgot I gave it to her five months earlier...needless to say i got the perm sub by Jan..and then Maternity leave that March. I was teaching that following Sept. GOOD LUCK and be persistent....ITA you will get something if faculty and kids like you you are IN!!!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon
