NYC teachers -- a question.

I called out sick today since my DD is very sick.

My para (I teach special ed) text messaged me today to tell me that there is a note in my mailbox from my AP that I will be observed tomorrow in reader's workshop.

It DEFINATELY was not there tuesday night when I left work after parent teacher conferences.

Can she do this? Give me 1 day notice when I wasn't even there today?

I already called my union rep but haven't heard back from her yet.

I think shes just being spiteful because I called out today.

I beleive that she can observe you BUT I don't believe that it can be written up as a formal observation.

Call the UFT office for your borough...the numbers are on the UFT website they will be able to advise youChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I believe this is correct- I also think you need to have a pre-observation conference for a formal observation.

Yes that too..I heard that was just for untenured teachers but I don't think that is true. You need to have a pre observation meeting that is mutually convenient for both parties. She can't come up to you tomorrow morning and say "this is our pre observation" I have heard of administrators doing that tooChat Icon

If it is a formal observation then she must have a pre-observation conference with you. Other then that they can pop in whenever they want.
