I bought heavy cream, put it in a clear container, added a little salt and all the kids had a turn to shake it. It took a while for it to turn to butter but it might have been because I put too much heavy cream in the container. ..try it. I used to do it every year when I taught pre-k!

I remember one year I used a electric mixer to mix it.
