Re: Eat Pray and Love
Well I'm almost done. I definitely don't think it is one of the best books in the world. But I see its point and it has shown me not to sweat the small stuff.
What I found most interesting is the way she described the people in the Ashram and in Bali. Its amazing how people spend so much focusing and working on their spirituality and their relationship to G-d. That was very beautful.
But her writing is -eh. And I think this was actually intended to be a book because she writes that after she gives her ex all the $ in the settlement, she gets an advance on writing this book.

Re: Eat Pray and Love
I know this si an old topic but I felt funny starting a new one for the same book...
Ok so I understand the mixed reviews. She does seem rather self absorbed but i think inw ays we all have done this or do this, especially if living in the tristate area where its all about GO GO GO and achieving something.
I didnt feel she was sarcastic. i thought she was amusing and poked fun at herself and life around her as a way of coping. I tend to do the same thing and when i write, my first person narrations often follow the ame occasionalyl self deprecating, sarcastic humour but just my personal coping emchanism. I believe its always laugh or cry so i tend to do the first.
I REALLY appreciated this book not as a self help book though it did help me. Although i dont particularly agree with all of her life choices, including being with a man 20+ years her senior, I can respect it worked for her. She made the journey her way and I think everyone whether they love or hate her can take SOMETHING away from this book.
For me it was the learning to BREATHE and accept yourself a little bit at a time. After reading this book for the first time in my life I am HAPPY with mr weight-Im the heaviest I have ever been; not fat at all but much heavier than before. My thighs rub together and I have a belly pooch that wont budge.
All my life I have had issues with fluctuatign weigth and aeting disorders, but somehow this book struck a chord with me, particularly the Italy and Inida part. what i took from it was STOP and look around. So Im fatter. WHO CARES. I have a good marriage, and mayeb Im not where I want to be jobwise but Im happy right now. I have friends and I will get there-eventually. It doesn't have to be tomorrow. The universe will wait for me.
So thats my rant.
