(NYC TEACHERS) Was anyone else's school picked for the performance pay?

MINE was! $3,000 for every member of the UFT member on staff if the 4th grade scores go up...NO pressure SINCE I TEACH 4TH GRADE

My school was picked as well, and since I spend basically 2 1/2 hours on test prep alone a day we better get it

Mine was not, and I am glad. It's not necessarily $3k per person- someone will decide how much you will get. I think the potential for divisiveness is huge and it would have caused huge problems at my school because my AP has her faves.

the admins have nothing to do with who gets the money, it is strictly for UFT members only and all UFT members get the money

I think I read in the newspaper, maybe the UFT paper, that a school turned down the performance pay. The staff wanted to send a message that they school is not about the tests, but about the whole educational environment.

I say good for them! I would turn it down, too! The money is not worth the hoops the DOE wants to put teachers through.

I voted no on the second to last contract, the one where we would have to do extended day and come back before Labor Day. It's just not worth the money.

My school wasn't picked and I am also glad that is wasn't. First, we have about 300 teachers on faculty, so the DOE would have to pay big $$ if we met the requirements. secondly, my administration is so corrupt that who knows how that money would be distributed. It is the principal, one AP and two teachers who decide where the $$ goes...there would be a riot among the teachers in my school no matter WHAT the outcome...

I think it is insulting that the BOE is actually offering certain schools extra money. I think that if you are a good teacher you are going to do your best to make sure all your children can read and write. I think that is telling the teachers, that they don't think they are working hard enough, so here is an incentive. I'd like to tell the BOE that most of us (who care about our kids) work very hard everyday for our kids, and it is insulting for them to give certian schools 3,000 if the scores go up. Does that mean that the good teachers who work in schools where the scores are good don't get a pay raise for their dedication and hard work? Tell them to keep their $$$$ and actually think about the kids. We don't just teach curriculum, it is not a business, we teach children.

My school is pretty small and most of the teachers are on the same level in terms of what we want to help the students and when we had the meeting about the school wide bonus we all agreed that we are doing our best regardless if we are getting an incentive (i've said before that my school is a pretty bad school) so even though we are working hard to get our students to get better grades to not "become a product of the neighborhood", its would be nice to get an extra incentive just for doing what we are already doing.

Regardless of the incentive when it comes to the test prep in my class i try hard to make my students understand it because I want them to get into a good middle school.

and we do have an execellent UFT rep in my school who presented this in a manner where it seemed like a fair and nice oppurtunity

I know theres alot of politics around this but as a first year teacher is a very hard to work in school this seems nice

is there a list somewhere? I have been out of school for PD for three days. I have no idea if we were picked or not.
