student loans???

is it better to consolidate or no? if you did who did you use? my loans are only about 17K so im not sure what to do...also im not due to start paying them for another year but i figured i should start paying a little bit now...is that better or should i wait? I jsut dont want the interest to keep adding up when i can make little payments now. Does it look better to pay early?Like for a credit score?

consolidate them if you can get a lower rate.

It's always better to pay than not, so i am sure it will help your credit.

consolidate ONLY if it's a better rate overall.

also, if you're still in school, you can defer them (if their federal Stafford loans) until you're down with school and then they usually give you a 6 month grace period to pay them off.

also, there are ways to get around some of the loans. there are loan forgiveness programs in some lower-performing schools on LI and the city. i got $4,000 from the city to put towards my loans. i would have had a max of $16,000, but i left the city after a year.

if you are still in school you can't consolidate.

if the interest rate is lower I would - you can also increase the term of the loan, but if you can afford the payment otherwise I would recommend against doing so.

try NELNET to consolidate I consolidated at 3.5% and after 1 year of ontime it goes down 1%
