Twins: Fetal Positioning
Hey guys:
Quick question. We got back from our latest appointment with the OB/GYN tonight. Everything is fine. They were able to pick Baby #1's heartbeat up on the doppler without any trouble. They had a hard time finding Baby #2, so they did an internal sonogram.
It was difficult but they eventually found Baby #2, we saw the movement and heard the heart beat, but it wasn't a clear shot, because Baby #2 was under Baby #1, and almost behind him/her. The doctor said that they've gotten too big to pick them both up on a vaginal sonogram together, and that we'll see them both again much clearer at the Level II.
Anyone else have this kind of positioning which made vaginal sonograms difficult to see both babies?

I think after a certain point they didn't even try to do that - like my 11 or 12 week ones - after week 7 or so they were all external.
As for the heart beats my OB didn't even try to listen to them (with just that doppler machine) until I want to say 12 or 14 weeks...they say with twins b/c of the reason what happened to you - you're not sure if you're picking up just the one or what not. Glad everything looked good!

That is totally normal! The twelve week sonogram will be external! You will be able to see things better! Also, the techs have ways of getting the babies to move for them!

thanks so much - we actually already had the 12 week one. and all the tests results came back fine. We saw them both really well during that. She'll be 14 weeks on Sunday - the next big one will be the level 2 at the end of January.
I was just curious if this was normal and it sounds like it is. It was a tad tense at first when we couldn't find the second one, but we then we able to get the heartbeat and saw some movement, even though the picture was not great

It is definetly normal - my ob always tried with every visit to pick up both heartbeats on the doppler - but even he said - you can't really tell where one ends and the other begins - so honestly it could be the same baby your hearing twice.
I appreciated his honesty though.
My babies didn't move positioning much - I guess there is so little room in there especially as they get bigger. One was always laying across my stomach while the other was at like a wierd angle facing up (sorta breech).

yes, very normal, sometimes Matthew didnt cooperate in many sonos.
In fact when I went for my first sono at my OB's office, the tech said she couldt find the other baby
I almost freaked out...i was like it was there last week. he was just hiding on us

I had 6 vaginal sonograms prior to 12 weeks and they told me that I was having 1 baby...it wasnt until my 12 week appointment that we "kind of" saw the other baby on a vaginal sonogram..it wasnt until the doctor did an abdominal sono that we found out we were having twins.

You actually just reminded me. We went for sonos at the high risk doc (b/c my insurance wasn't covered at my OB) - after the appointment we would literally walk across the street and my OB would try to listen for the HB and not be able to detect both and get all freaked out. I would be like but we JUST saw BOTH of them for like an hour.

I had internal exams every visit as well. Always a good time

I had vaginal sonos up until the end...
then the lovely obgyn internals started..I lived at the high risk.
So much..the nurse got medical clearance to watch my c-section...because we became friends..hahaha

Yes, however, my DS was not always cooperative with the high res ones. His placenta was attached to the front of my uterus. When they would try to get him he was difficult to see.
Also the reason why I barely felt him the entire pregnancy. He was kicking but it was acting like a cushion. His sister on the other hand...

yep - that's how our second one is - he or she got nice and comfy in there hiding
