Re: candy molds

It's a matter of taste preference - I like the look of dark chocolate, more people seem to prefer milk or white (vanilla) chocolate.

Wilton's has melting chocolate at Michaels. There are chocolate stores that have other brands (I can't recall the name). The only store I know of is on Jericho Turnpike about 3 blocks west of New Hyde Park Road.

yup... i've done this a few times- you can get the molds and the melting chocolate at Michaels/ACMoore.... they have different colors, too. if you want a good selection, though i would try a candy store. i don't live on LI so i can't help you with that- but i know in NJ theres a candy store wtih a whole room of molds and different colored chocolates...

Re: candy molds

You might want to get the plastic baggies to put them in - if you are making lollipops.

I would personally go to a chocolate store for the chocolate - but it is up to you. Not sure where you are located but I can recommend a place in Smithtown/Nesconset area.

Re: candy molds

I ordered a chocolate maker on QVC. It melts the chocolate and comes with a ton of molds and sticks and it was around $24 IIRC. I buy my chocolate from AC Moore if you have one of those. They are cheaper than Michael's and they have a bunch of colors and molds.

If you do it in the microwave, just be careful with the white chocolate. It always seems to burn easier than the milk chocolate and it stinks!

Theres a candy place on Hicksville road in massapequa, who sells everything you will need. I have to go there for stuff for my dd christening.. they were just in the paper rated good..

You can put rice in chocolate and make them like a nestle crunch.

ETA: nevermind about mass. just read your not on long island.

Re: candy molds

you also need a double boiler! I would prefer to buy from a chocolate store than a major craft chain.

Re: candy molds

Yes use a double boiler and no matter what make sure no water gets into the chocolate.

You can also add sprinkles to decorate them.

After you fill the molds put the tray in the freezer flat. Make sure they are fully try b/4 trying to pop them out

What is the name of the candy place in Massapequa? I'm very excited, I didn't know there was one over here... I only knew about the one in Wantagh.
